It's a Melly Go Round with Melanie Missin-Keating

Description

Circles, what do they symbolise? There is something complete about a circle, yet it continues, round and round. The circle is a universal symbol and has many meanings. It represents the concept of totality, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, wholeness. It is the most efficient shape as it has no stress points as every part it equal. Mel loves circles and she has developed a little book project to celebrate that love! You will head down nostalgia lane and remember how to use a Spirograph, try out transfer dyeing and learn hand embroidery techniques. You will be introduced to Mel's staple material; Vlieseline and work with washers and wire! You will work on a 6-inch square during the day, and be set to carry on infinitely! Create gorgeous circular details to use as brooches, turn into artworks, embelish bags or make your own circle celebration book! The point is to play and enjoy! Order of the day: 1. Circles: creating backgrounds with hand drawn circular patterns and/or using the spirograph and painting with transfer dyes and transferring onto the vlieseline. 2. Stitching onto washers, vlieseline circles, beads, wire, using different hand embroidery to create raised circular pieces. 3. Apply the raised circles/washers onto the backgrounds. Finishing off the square with more stitching. You will also use a soldering iron to create marks and patterns.
