Description
Natural dyeing using woodland plants At Coppicewood College, Cilgerran. This weekend course is set in a lovely woodland near Cilgerran where we will forage for plants for dyeing yarns and fleece. Starting by exploring in the woods you will learn about the dyeing process, and then make your own mordant to prepare fibres for dyeing. You can also experiment with eco printing using leaves and flowers directly onto paper. On day two you gather plants to make various botanical dyes and create a beautiful range of coloured samples on cotton yarn, and wool yarn and fleece. There will be explanations as we go along and notes to take home. A relaxed weekend in a lovely setting suitable for beginners and more experienced dyers. There is a covered workshop and compost toilet in the woods. Please wear sensible shoes or boots and bring an apron and gloves plus notebook and camera, and your packed lunch. Susan trained as a Textile Designer and has been teaching craft workshops on spinning and natural dyeing for the last 10 years. She mainly uses local dye materials that she collects or grows in her garden and locally grown fleece. She is endlessly fascinated by the colours created with plants and is mindful of sustainability in her work.
