Loose Botanical Watercolours with Lyn Evans - a 'Quirky Workshop' at Greystoke Craft Garden & Barns near Penrith and Ullswater

X

Description

Lyn likes to paint her watercolours largely from life, choosing blooms which will stay open for a couple of days. She likes interesting shapes so Iris, Lilies and Tulips feature largely in her work. Of course sometimes she uses a photograph, as flowers like peonies have a habit of exploding into life when you least expect it and its better to capture a required image in such cases. Lyn will teach you how to employ loose watercolour techniques, allowing the pigment and water combination to work their own magic without to much interference being necessary and also using other tools, such as pens, inktence pencils, watercolour pencils, salt and twigs to be used along side your paints can also be used to obtain the beautiful effects from the watercolour. At the end of the day everyone should have at lease one lovely piece of work to take home. During the morning, Lyn will teach, step by step, the techniques she employs and builds on for different effects - and although some basic experience of watercolours is preferred, it is by no means essential, especially as the painting style is relaxed and loose. Students will need to provide their own materials; a list will be sent once booked.

Situated in a tranquil location on the fringes of the Lake District in north west England, we have been hosting a Quirky range of workshops since 2005. We are now proud to offer over 140 Arts, Craft and Heritage Skills Workshops each year, led by an incredible and talented range of local and national tutors, all experts in their field. We have two teaching studios, the 'Squirrel Barn' and the newly renovated, spacious and airy 'Swallow Barn', the latter of which, at 60m2 was very popular in the months post Covid, allowing 2m distancing, hand washing and two staircases. We have several garden teaching spaces too. Lunch (included) can be taken outside on the Tea Lawn in warmer months and teas/coffee with Aga home-baking is served at your desk. Our days are considered real treats.
