Description

We are delighted to be able to welcome John back to Broadrake after the disruption to indoor workshops with Covid.

A relaxed, interactive, informal day delving into the mysteries of line and wash in John's unique style. Broadrake, in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park has amazing views all around and no shortage of inspirational subject matter.

The day will cover an insight into John's style with demonstrations and exercises. There may be outdoor sketching opportunities, subject to the weather, working from these and reference images to the final ink drawing and application of light watercolour washes to create a loose lively painting (or three), running from 11.00am. to 5.00pm(Sunday May 15th) and 10.00am to 4.00pm(Weds, Oct 19th) with a break for lunch. If weather is unsuitable for outdoor sketching, then you will work from inspiring photos of the local area.

John is Yorkshire born and bred, proud of his home county which provides the inspiration for much of his work. He specialises in line and wash, a style which superbly captures the beauty and atmosphere of Yorkshire's landscape, towns and villages.

John now has a monthly page in the popular 'Dalesman' magazine since his style works so well for the landscape and buildings of the Yorkshire Dales, as well as the East Yorkshire coast.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

A fascinating day in a beautiful studio with great views and subjects to draw in every direction. The course taught me several new pen techniques and tips to use watercolours better. The venue was friendly and relaxed, offering full facilities and delicious home made treats. John and Rachel made us very welcome and we had a worthwhile and fun day.
