Description

This one-to-one tutoring is aimed at anyone with a keen interest in jewellery making. You may be looking for an alternative to a group short course, wanting to really get stuck in and hit the ground running or would just like the benefits of not having to share your tutor! Either way, one-to-one tutoring offers many benefits - the best being the sessions are entirely structured to you as an individual, your aims, your level of experience and your learning style. Running 10am to 4pm, you will be working in a professional creative studio (shared with two other humans and a dog). For beginners, Scott can offer a fully structured day to introduce you to jewellery making core techniques, culminating in making a silver piece of jewellery (a ring or pendant) to wear away. What is covered: - planning and designing a piece of jewellery - exploring the considerations and restrictions with body placement. - cutting, forming and filing silver - soldering, cleaning, finishing and polishing - sizing jewellery (depending on your project) For those with some experience, Scott can offer support and guidance to improve your skill level and (more importantly) your confidence. Other skills and techniques that can be covered are: - stone setting (rub over, fush and claw) - wax carving - re-using materials (refining scrap) - working in gold Once booked, Scott will get in touch with you to run through what you would like to achieve and the best way to get there. ABOUT ME I creates unique pieces that blur the boundaries between traditional hand skills and contemporary design. Graduating with a BDes in Jewellery & Metal Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee, I then achieved an MA in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing and Jewellery from the Royal College of Art in London. Immersed in the beautiful and visually rich South Coast, I have developed an interest in colours found living by the sea, specifically the rich hues of dawn and dusk. An advocate for traditional handmaking skills, I am an experienced goldsmith with a wealth of experience that goes beyond art college training. Passionate about self-development, I have spent a number of years working alongside classically trained goldsmiths, sadly considered a dying breed. Previously holding posts as Head of Teaching with Holts Academy of Jewellery (now the British Academy of Jewellery) and as a lecturer in Fashion Jewellery with London College of Fashion, I regularly teach short courses in Brighton. ** please be aware that the workshop area is on a mezzanine level accessible by stairs only **

What's included in the price?
