This beginners, one day class is for those who wish to learn the traditional 6 strand cane weaving pattern, so that it can be applied to restoration projects or frame design for the development of new work by furniture designer/makers.
I will demonstrate each stage and guide you through cane-weaving a practice frame during our day together in the studio, and I'll show you how the finishing techniques of pegging, couching and beading will complete the work.
You will have your completed sample frame to take home, receive a comprehensive handout illustrating each stage of the technique, details of where to purchase tools and materials along with sufficient cane to reweave your frame for additional practice at a later date.
Please feel free to bring along any rattan restoration pieces you may have to discuss with the group if there is sufficient time.
