Handspinning creative yarns

Fleece carded into rolags
X

Description

The aim of this course is to teach you how to use a spinning wheel or drop spindle to spin a 2-ply yarn from raw fleece or prepared fibres, over two days. It's is held in my studio either using one of my wheels or bring your own. By the end of the day you should have a small 2-ply hank of yarn to take away with you.

You will learn how to choose a good fleece or good quality fibre, how to prepare it for spinning using a pair of hand carders, how to spin it into a thin or thick yarn. You will then ply together two small bobbins of your yarn and you will learn how to wash it and prepare it ready to use for knitting or weaving or other craft.

Come and have a fun day out. Due to the Coronavirus restrictions I am only teaching 1 or 2 people per workshop in my studio so you'll get plenty of help and attention.

At the end of the day you can buy equipment and materials to carry on spinning at home.

Fiona is an Ashford dealer, selling spinning and weaving equipment as well as a small range of silk and wool fibres and cotton yarns.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

A light lunch will be provided together with refreshments and home-made scones.
There's no additional charge for equipment and materials used during the course.

If you've been to one of my workshops before please will you leave a review.
I look forward to seeing you again.

A lovely day spent learning introductory methods and techniques for tapestry weaving in a relaxed and friendly environment. Fiona is very knowledgeable and experienced in her craft, immediately putting me, the novice learner, at ease! Along with teaching the basics she gave lots of useful tips and suggestions on how to develop further skills, plus advice on equipment, books and relevant places to visit for inspiration. There were lots of examples of her own work to show what can be achieved using wool and textiles. And the food was delicious! Highly recommended.

Response from Shropshire Weavers:

Thanks Denise. It was lovely to meet you and get you started on your weaving journey. I look forward to seeing you again and showing you more weaving techniques. Let's hope you get a loom for Christmas! Happy Weaving. Best Wishes. Fiona

Two wonderful days in Fiona's Studio dyeing wool, cotton and fleece with weld and oak (both picked fresh from her garden!), goldenrod, madder, logwood and more. Fiona is a superb teacher - very welcoming and knowledgeable, and her homemade scones and soup were delicious. Recommended if you want to learn the process of dyeing using plants from scratch.

Response from Shropshire Weavers:

I'm so glad you enjoyed your day with your sister. Thanks for the review. Look forward to seeing you both again next year for Dyeing with Indigo. I hope your Mum liked her little handspun silk Hank dyed with Indigo. Happy Dyeing! Warm wishes Fiona

I really enjoyed the 1 day introduction course, my piece of work I created from this event is on my wall! I have now booked for the 2nd day. The course teaches you the basics for weaving and provides you with the confidence to try new methods and materials. Fiona is a very knowledgeable tapestry weaver. I can recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn tapestry weaving. Great lunch too.

Response from Shropshire Weavers:

Thanks Jackie. So glad you enjoyed it. It was lovely to meet you and Barbara. Look forward to seeing you both again in October.

A very enjoyable day. The small group meant personal tuition and so it was easy to learn new skills. Thank you Fiona. The food was good as well!
