About the Course

Check out our 2020 Cowshed Creative workshop programme on OUR website (purple tab above).

Enjoy a great day out in the countryside on our Lakeland farm learning traditional dry stone walling skills from an experienced and friendly tutor who will explain the process. You will learn the basic principles; sorting stone, building foundations and helping to construct a section of wall, developing your confidence as you go. A great introduction to the heritage and ancient rural craft of building walls using only the stone in the field, without cement.

Richard Halliday studied Wildlife Management at the University of Central Lancashire. He set up his own business in 2006 working as a Stone mason, building and mending traditional Lakeland Dry Stone walls and using his expertise in stone masonry for a wide variety of building projects. Richard & his team have built/ mended many of the walls on the farm. Richard is passionate about his skills and loves working out in the countryside.

This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Lakeland barn on our traditional family Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm. Check out our website for details.

All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts. Whilst this is a relatively new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
