Dry stone walling at Cowshed Creative on our traditional Lakeland Farm, Lake District near Windermere

Dry Stone Walling at Cowshed Creative on our Lakeland Farm near Windermere and Kendal

About the Course

Opening 25 Aug. 2-metre distancing and smaller groups.

Dry stone walling: For a great day outside in the country on our beautiful Lakeland farm, learning traditional dry stone walling skills from a friendly and expert tutor who will explain and demonstrate the whole process.

Richard Halliday will introduce to this ancient rural craft using only the stone in the fields. You will learn basic principles - sorting stone, building foundations, constructing a section of wall and developing your confidence as you go. Richard studied Wildlife Management at the University of Central Lancashire. He set up his own business in 2006 working as a Stone mason, building and mending traditional Lakeland Dry Stone walls and using his expertise in stone masonry for a wide variety of building projects. Richard & his team have built/ mended many of the walls on the farm. Richard is passionate about his skills and loves working out in the countryside.

This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Lakeland barn on our traditional family Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm. Check out our website for details.

What a wonderful day....cold and wet June outside but a warm welcome at the Shibori Dye workshop despite our late arrival!
My 2 daughters and I really enjoyed learning about different techniques in the lovely company of other like minded crafters. We produced lots of samples following Kate's instructions, getting carried away in the process. A lovely lunch was provided followed by cake and refreshments from George. Can really recommend this course and great value for money. The only decision I must make now, what to do with the samples I produced....maybe incorporate into a quilt or some nice cushions! Many thanks to our lovely host and tutor and looking forward to visiting again at some point.

Response from Cowshed Creative (Kentmere Farm Pods and Creative Courses):

Thank you for such kind words. It was really fun to meet you and your daughters and we look forward to seeing you again.
