About the Course

Learn dry stone walling in the beautiful Stanwick Lakes nature reserve! Please contact us if you'd like to book a place on this course as a date will be organised once we have sufficient interest.
This one day introductory Dry Stone Walling Course provides hands-on experience to learn the basics of dry stone walling. Ideal for those looking to extend or repair an existing wall or (like many of our previous participants) you just want to discover how a dry stone wall is built and ‘have a go’!

You’ll learn about selecting and shaping the stone, setting lines, laying the courses of stone, wedging and hearting, then ending the day by topping the wall off with Coping Stones. We spend the day outside, working next to our Training Barn. Each piece of limestone used is around 140 million years old so building a Dry Stone Wall really is ‘History in the Making’!

Trading Places is based within the beautiful surroundings of the Stanwick Lakes nature reserve, in the heart of Northamptonshire’s Nene Valley. All of our courses take place in and around our purpose built green oak Training Barn. Course places can be booked for one or more people depending on availability. However, if you are looking for a larger group booking (such as a work team building event, a group of friends or an alternative hen or stag 'do') we are very happy to discuss your requirements with you.

Click through above to book your place!

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Tools, materials and safety equipment are provided for all courses. Participants are simply asked to bring their own supply of enthusiasm and a packed lunch! (we provide tea and coffee during the courses).

This course is held outside next to the training barn. Please come dressed in clothes you do not mind getting dirty. If you have your own safety boots (steel toe capped) feel free to bring them with you, if not we will be able to supply you some. If the weather is looking grey please bring waterproofs, again these can be supplied if needed.

Well taught, excellent course, from which I learnt a lot.

- - #9100

The course was an excellent introduction to dry stone walling. Relaxed approach to learning and we were encouraged to take your time to understand what we were doing and to do it well. We had the opportunity to set out, cut and shape stones as necessary and to work together to build in a small group.
