*Please not there are different listings/costs for this course depending on whether you want your stool frame made of Ash, Oak or Walnut. This is the listing for the ASH FRAME OPTION at £442 for the weekend.
Spend a weekend immersed in the craft of Danish Cord weaving, a stylish and popular upholstery technique commonly used for chairs, benches and stools alike!
Danish cord, an incredibly strong 3 ply paper rope, gathered attention after WW11 in Denmark and Europe for its unique woven aesthetic appearance, ease of production and longevity - which is estimated to be around 60 years or more! The skill of weaving seating from Danish cord means that it’s difficult to replicate on a level of mass production by machine, as such it is generally only seen on high end furniture handcrafted by makers.
On this course, you will be provided with a pre-made stool in either Ash, Oak or Walnut This is the listing for the Ash frame option, but please see our other listings if your would prefer the Oak or walnut option.
On your first day, you will be tutored on how the stool frame was made, including demonstrations on how the frame was prepared and constructed, so that you have an overview on how this item could be made outside of the course.
This section of the course will naturally lead onto how you would prepare and prep a stool frame for finishing, and you will then have hands on experience of applying a finish to a frame and polishing the stool in preparation for the Danish Cord upholstery.
Our tutors will then demonstrate Danish Cord weaving patterns to the group, and then focusing on a pattern which you will be weaving on your own stool frames. The remainder of the weekend will then be taken up with the hands on experience of weaving your own danish cord seats.
At the end of the weekend, you will have a high quality woven Danish Cord stool, which will be a fine addition to compliment any home interior. Not only that, but you’ll have the skill of Danish Cord Weaving to take forward to your future furniture projects!

Being a furniture maker and restorer I wanted to widen my skill set. What a brilliant course! Myself and 3 others attended the pilot for this workshop which ended up being well thought out and executed. If the pilot can be this good then i'm sure you can book with confidence for the roll out of normal courses.
I took photos and notes throughout to make sure I could replicate the process when I get round to making my own frame. Thank you Ollie.
I just attended Danish Cord stool course and found it excellent. The task was well explained at each stage and there was adequate time to complete the stool. I was particularly pleased that when something went not quite right Knot in the string or breakage the repair was readily completed with some additional personal instruction and later shown and explained to others attending.
I have attended a couple of other furniture making courses and found this course equal to if not slightly better than those.
I was well delighted with the end product and am thinking about making some more perhaps for our children.
