Whether you are starting from scratch or want to re-learn old skills, long forgotten, this friendly beginners workshop is for you. You’ll learn the basic crochet stitches and get plenty of tips for achieving a good finish as you go along. You’ll have a go at making a couple of small projects during the workshop and you’ll learn how to follow a pattern. Kit included to take away (hook, yarn and basic patterns) so that you can continue to develop your skills at home. If you have enjoyed this class, look out for our regular Next Steps classes to grow your skills further. Taught by tutor/maker Alex Peel. Level: From complete beginners

Classes are individually priced & include the tools to use in class and all materials, unless otherwise indicated. As this involves close-work, don’t forget to bring your reading glasses! Each participant also receives a 10% off voucher to spend in the shop.

Founded in 1906, we are a family firm with shops in York and Harrogate. We specialise in haberdashery and needlecrafting materials and workshops, with an international reputation for stocking over 10,000+ different button designs. Our classes are held in a beautiful beamed room at the top of our medieval building in York and in the Yorkshire town of Ilkley in a converted Victorian double-fronted shop. They are taught by practicing designers and makers with considerable expertise in (and passion for) their respective crafts, and considerable teaching experience.
