About the Course
At this workshop you will receive personalised tutoring as part of a small group from papercutting artist Melissa Holmes, who has more than six years' experience in this creative method. You will be taught the basics of papercutting, including scalpel technique, practicing shapes, lines and curves, and understanding simple design techniques. You’ll then have the opportunity to move on to cutting a pre-designed template of your choice – choose from flowers, birds or perhaps a quote piece – so that you’ll go home with at least one completed papercut, ready for you to frame at home.
The workshop will also cover more advanced techniques such as colour infills and designing your own templates. No previous experience is needed and no drawing skill is required – just a willingness to learn and try something new!
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

This is the first time I had been to Lanehead and it won’t be the last. I went on the course with a friend who like me hadn’t done papercutting before. It was an opportunity to relax, catch up and seek out my crafty side which I had forgotten I had.
The paper cutting course was a real joy. Melissa was a great teacher who is clearly very skilled and passionate. Her enthusiasm was catching-so much so I bought one of her lovely packs and have since been converted to paper cutting! The venue is absolutely stunning, Karen has such a great eye for style and her fabulous work shop where the course was held was perfect. Calming, cosy, yet practical and modern. The food was great, simple but hearty and informal. The accommodation is ideal. Immaculate, comfy, home from home atmosphere and you can’t fail to be taken away with the breathtaking views surrounding Lanehead. I had 24 hours at Lanehead and left knowing that next time, I will definitely be taking more time to appreciate what is on offer there and learning new skills with new friends. Thank you Karen!
