Beginners carving and lettering in stone weekend in the Scottish Borders

X

Description

Over a relaxing weekend in the heart of the Scottish Borders you can learn the gentle art of letter-cutting. Experienced letterer and tutor Natasha Smith will guide you through the process of relief carving or hand lettering on stone, from sketch to cut letter. Using chisel and hammer you can discover the meditational art of lettering. Very small groups ensure you get lots of guidance. We begin with a cuppa around 9.30 and meet the others. Then we will look at examples of work and Natasha will demonstrate techniques. Then it's time to start hitting stone!. We work through to 4.30 each day with perhaps an open fire to warm up the soup - for lunch. We will be working out doors weather permitting so warm clothes and sturdy footwear recommended. Everyone with a bit of patience and enthusiasm will finish with 4 or 5 letters carved into stone. But be warned - stone carving is highly addictive, you may be back for more!
