Create your own authentic limp vellum binding!

Explore the techniques of a limp vellum binding. Get to grips with this early style binding, of a book without hard covers, held together with threads and leather or parchment thongs threaded through a folded parchment cover. During the day you will learn how to sew a paper block onto thongs; how to mark up and fold your cover, secure your book together and create front ties. These skills can then be used to create your own design book with a decorative cover using ribbons and punched holes.

We will be using a vellum substitute that looks and feels just as good as the real stuff but is vegan friendly.

Students attending the course should comfortable clothes, including closed toe shoes. All tools and materials will be provided. Extra embellishments available from tutor at cost price. No experience necessary although an ability to sew is beneficial.

Suitable for ages 16 +
