Crafting from the comfort of your own home

With all the challenges of this year, would you like to find an easy way to be creative from the comfort and safety of your own home? Have you ever started a creative task and then put it away because you haven’t got the results you wanted?

Then perhaps an inspiring Live Online art course might be just the thing for you to confidently get you back on your creative journey.

Here is the story of Purnima, of Art by Purnima a fabulous artist and qualified teacher to share how she started on her artistic journey.

Purnima is a super talented watercolour artist.

In 1997 I left my career in banking to look after my two lovely children, and it was during this time that I qualified as a teacher in Arts and Crafts.

Drawing and creating have always been a passion for me and I started my creative journey making my own cards. Following this, I attended a floristry course which fuelled my passion for flowers and the beauty that can be found in nature. One subject medium led to another and, as I began expanding my skillset, I became intrigued by the detail in flowers and I began to paint and draw realistic images of them. I experimented with different mediums, watercolour, coloured pencils and graphite. I also experimented with bringing the two dimensional image to life by creating realistic sugar flowers, which captured all the fine detail and brought all of my creative techniques together.

The fine detail in flowers inspired Purnima to draw and paint them

It was at this point that I wanted to share my creative journey, to inspire others to try something new. I began to share my hints and tips with others and started to teach structured courses in the community, reaching out to adults. I now have over 20 years experience teaching adults of all abilities, backgrounds and personalities.

I get so excited to see new learners taking the steps towards progressing in a simple hobby or pastime, with some of my learners going on to start their own small business ventures.

As many tutors have had to do, the lockdown of March 2020, caused me to drastically look at the ways I could deliver my teaching safely, so that I could still reach out to my learners and watercolour enthusiasts who were unable to go outdoors to learn face-to-face.

As a result, I set up a YouTube channel and Instagram page ArtbyPurnima which has continued to grow in popularity amongst my peers and network.

Purnima loves helping others on their creative journey.

To accompany my digital presence, I have also successfully set up online courses via Zoom, which offer a variety of courses such as; Watercolour, Drawing, Coloured Pencils, Sugar Craft, and Crochet.

This new, easy online platform enables learners to log in on a computer/mobile device via a link, to learn a creative skill that can fit in perfectly to their everyday working life, in the safe and comfortable environment of their own homes. Whilst some learners were unsure on how an online course would work and feel, it was clear after their first session that there was definitely a demand for online craft courses.

From anywhere in the world, students can see a clear, live demonstration of my step by step explanations and techniques on a wide screen, which enables them to create alongside me and ask any questions along the way.

My online courses have given learners the opportunity to continue to progress with me, during times of lockdown, but also when other courses have been fully booked or if a learner has relocated.

I am excited to welcome you to take part in my online courses, and look forward to teaching you soon.
