It seems like the summer holidays were only yesterday, yet the half term holidays are fast approaching. Don’t have time to think of inspired activities that will be enjoyable, not only for the little ones, but also potentially for you? That will get them from behind a screen and their imaginations growing?

Look no further, we’ve put together our top 6 child-friendly arts and crafts activities:

  1. No sew Gnome Workshop at Lana Mutado (7yrs+)

Learn to make an adorable Gnome, with no sewing involved! Create a gnome in the colour and style of your choosing – the only thing you don’t have an option on is how cute they are (that’s set at ‘Really Cute’!). And, best of all, children will be able to recreate them at home.

Location: Staffordshire

Date: 29th Oct

  1. Make your own clay house at Eastgate Gallery, Pembroke (8yrs+)

This two-hour children’s pottery workshop provides everything you need to design and build your own clay house. Children can decide whether to make a pumpkin, fairy, woodland or even ocean house – the decorative possibilities are endless, leaving young minds to be as creative as they like.

Location: Pembrokeshire

Dates: 31st Oct and 2nd Nov

  1. Cyanotype and Lampshade/Table Lantern Workshop at Sunlight & Blue (12yrs+)

Learn to light-sensitise watercolour paper or fabric, place objects on top and then expose to sunlight to create striking blue prints. Then make them into a lampshade or table lantern to take home. A magical and satisfying process.

Location: Dorset

Dates: Flexible – please contact the course provider for details.

  1. Stained Glasses Courses at Le Breton Traditional (9yrs+)

This beginners course includes both ‘Tiffany’ copper foiling and leaded styles of stained glass. You can create panels, lamps, candle holders, hanging artwork pieces and more – whatever you decide.

  1. Parent and child-friendly pottery courses at Potterydayz (6yrs+)

Imagine a day sharing a unique pottery experience with your child (or children), learning to throw pots and produce some fantastic (and sometimes funny) outcomes. The perfect way to spend time together in this shared creative experience.

Location: Northamptonshire

Dates: availability throughout school holidays and weekends

6. Family Mosaic Fun at Montet Designs (7yrs +)

A great introductory class for families to come together to learn the craft of mosaic. Create something completely unique whilst enjoying precious creative time together.

Location: St Albans

Date: 2nd Nov (morning or afternoon session)

Getting creative is fantastic for children’s development – crafts help them to develop their co-ordination, learn to self-regulate, builds their self-esteem and most importantly provides great bonding time and fun!
