"This was something I had always wanted to try and oh my goodness I had the most amazing day. It was everything I wanted and more; One to one personal tuition from Suzanne who was patience personified with this absolute beginner. We covered technique after technique with Suzanne giving me the confidence to tackle each one, slowly building up my knowledge in easy, achievable stages throughout the day. Suzanne, explained and demonstrated everything clearly then was close at hand to encourage and support as I tried for myself. The day just flew but I came away feeling I'd learnt so much, with a gorgeous handful of beads to be proud of and craving more. I can't thank Suzanne enough and I'm looking at dates to book a further course with her. I highly recommend this course and Suzanne as a tutor."

"I did this with a friend and although we were somewhat nervous about working with a flame and molten glass before hand, we had a really enjoyable morning and gained a lot of confidence. The techniques that Suzanne teaches are fun and achievable, and we can’t wait to get our beads in the post to see how they turned out."

"This was such a great day. me and my mum did the half day workshop and was really surprised in what we achieved. We have never done lampworking before and it was a complete surprise for my mum. After an impressive demonstration we were left to our lamps to have a go. Like all crafts, it needs practice, and we were left to grasp the feel of working with glass at our own pace. It was very refreshing to not have the tutor quickly take over the minute we go off kilter a little. We received our beads 2 days later and was incredibly proud of our achievements. Be warned it was mesmerising and I can totally see anyone getting hooked."

"We had a lovely morning making beads with Suzanne. She demonstrated lots of techniques clearly, to enable us to make a number of beads. I went with my 15 year old daughter who has some learning difficulties and Suzanne was very patient and encouraging, she didn't want to leave. Making the beads filled her with confidence. The studio was lovely, very well set out with lots of choice of materials to work with. A great course and tutor who I would highly recommend. We will have to come back to practise our skills and make some more!!"

"I had the best day with Suzanne. Everything we made was achievable and I had some good early success which boosted my confidence, making the later, harder work less daunting. Suzanne is a great teacher. She gave clear instructions and helpful guidance as I went along, and each time a very clear objective that we were aiming for. I loved the freedom Suzanne gave me to experiment and play as well as the structure she gives to the day which leads to successful outcomes. Suzanne was a pleasure to be with - easy company, encouraging and kind. Her workshop is so well laid out and really inspiring to be in. A few days after the course, I was thrilled to receive not only my own beads, but also the beads Suzanne had made as examples! I cannot wait to be able to go back for another full day. I've been truly bitten by the lampworking bug!! I cannot recommend this course, and tutor enough. If you're considering the course you should DEFINITELY book it now."

"Had a fantastic time with a very patient teacher learning the basics of bead making. We learned how to make a basic bead then added various decorations, building skills as we went along. The garden studio is lovely, well equipped and has a kettle (tea is essential for people like me). Suzanne took care to ensure we complied with guidelines relating to covid 19 and I felt safe and supported at all times. I’m already planning another trip because I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Highly recommended."

"I have just had my second full day of training with Suzanne and it was fantastic. Suzanne is a super teacher, very patient and very observant. She carefully demonstrated each new technique before giving me ample opportunity to produce my own versions. "A fabulous course with good clear and patient teaching skills. Suzanne was very warm and welcoming and her work space is lovely. "I attended this workshop with my daughter and can honestly say if was fantastic. I have taken lots of craft courses and my daughter is an artist so we thought we would be easy. Lampworking requires a great deal of skill, however Suzanne was very patient and calm offering all the support we needed. Our beads then arrived in the post like little jewels. No faults at all and will definitely try and do this again."

"10/10 Ticked every box. Firstly, any apprehension about using the equipment soon disappeared. Suzanne's studio and equipment are specifically adapted for safety and having 2 to 3 pupils per session ensures individuals receive guidance and reassurance when necessary. Secondly, Suzanne is skilled in her craft and she is a patient and encouraging teacher. She demonstrates and guides you through the various techniques. My beads were not bad for a first attempt. Would I do the course again ? - Yes, cannot wait, practice makes perfect. Thirdly, the location Barnard Castle, a unique market town that has not lost its identity, or community spirit. An ideal location for a spot of lunch and a browse around the interesting local shops. Quality course - well worth it and an enjoyable afternoon spent in the historic town of Barnard Castle."

"I bought a half day beginners workshop as a gift for myself and a family member, having vowed to buy more locally produced gifts or experiences from now on. Communication before the course was fantastic, very informative so we knew where we were going and what we would be doing. On arrival we were treated to a very warm welcome in Suzanne’s lovely workshop, which was very well appointed with a wide range of beautiful coloured glass rods. Suzanne’s teaching style was great, explaining all the health and safety bits and a bit about what she does, before getting straight into demonstrating what we were going to do. As the session went on, we got more confident with the glass and produced some lovely beads. I found the process very hypnotic, definitely good for practicing a bit of mindfulness starting into the bright flame and watching the glass change shape. I’m sure I will be back for another session! "If you have considered having a go at lampworking then i strongly recommend this course. Suzanne is friendly and extremely patient, her workshop is very well equiped and there are always cups of tea on the go! I only did the half day workshop but was amazed at how much was achieved in that time, and also at how fast the time went, a sure sign of enjoying it! "This was a superb day. I thoroughly enjoyed myself across the whole day. Suzanne calmly and patiently took me through the basics which included health and safety. I very quickly began to work with the actual glass, heating it, stretching it and soon produced my first bead. Across the day I was introduced to a number of techniques that helped me to decorate and shape the glass. I had a head full of questions and Suzanne was very willing and able to answer them all. After the day I feel ready to have a go at setting up my own flame working area. This is a great course and I can thoroughly recommend it. Chris Sowden"

"I had a lovely day, Suzanne is an amazing teacher, very patient and explained everything. I didn't feel rushed or stressed at all and I learnt such a lot! Can't believe how much we got through. A very well equipped workshop with lots of different colours of glass to use. At first I was a bit tentative using the torch but by the end I had no fears at all. Really looking forward to seeing my beads now that they are out of the kiln. "I brought my daughter for her 14th birthday and we both had a really inspiring, enjoyable time. It was nice to find someone who was prepared to have someone of my daughter's age as many places stipulate 16. I've always had a fascination with glass work and my daughter had been keen to try some for a while too. She was particularly keen to work with hot glass so Suzanne's workshop was perfect for her. It's also nice that beads can be easily used afterwards to create a memento of the occasion. It was a nice environment to work in, Suzanne was very friendly and helpful and the biscuits were also very nice ?"

"Lampworking is something I've been wanting to try for a while. So when I came across Suzanne offering a beginners workshop, I jumped at the chance! Suzanne was super friendly with a lot of patience, which was brilliant for someone like me who hadn't worked with glass before. The half day session went by in a flash... but it was so informative. Suzanne briefly explained her process and even the type of glass she used which I found so interesting. The session was brilliantly put together. I was able to watch Suzanne make a bead, each step explained clearly and then basically have a go myself! As a complete novice I was surprised I was able to create what I did! It was thoroughly enjoyable and if this is something you've even remotely thought about doing - give it a go! The half day session is brilliant for people with busy lives/work - I can only imagine what fun can be had in a full day. Thanks so much for having me Suzanne. :)"

I had some limited experience of lampworking before and it was great to be able to build upon my previous knowledge and try lots of new techniques. Suzanne is a brilliant teacher, extremely knowledgable and very calm and patient. She was able to demonstrate whilst allowing me lots of time at the torch also.
