About the Course
I am pleased to be able to offer various tuition packages in this fabulous technique known as Lampworking - 'The art of melting glass rods in the flame of a torch'.
With over 14 years of bead making experience tuition takes place in my studio in the beautiful market town of Barnard Castle in County Durham, which is fully insulated and ventilated to offer a comfortable and safe environment for you to work in.
I am fully insured and have individual work stations to accommodate up to three students at a time. 1-2-1 tuition at no extra cost. 10% reduction for two or more persons attending together.
All my workshops run at a mutually convenient time, I usually ask for 2/3 dates which suit you best they can be either a week day or weekend, I will then get back to you with which are available.
This 3 hour session includes:
• Bead making tuition on making glass beads, decoration techniques including applying dots, pulling and applying stringers (fine pieces of glass used to decorate beads) and shaping beads.
• You will make approx five to six beads in your all day session.
• All beads made are to keep, posted the following day after they have been annealed and cleaned.
Before each session starts I run through health and safety and talk a little on lampworking and types of glass I use. I then demonstrate the technique we are going to do first before letting you have ago. I like students to get the maximum use of time in front of the torch making beads
I will have refreshments available, tea, coffee & juices, biscuits and home made cakes as well as lots of lampwork / jewellery books and beads for extra inspiration.

• Toilet facilities, are within my home.
• Age 14+ (under 16's must be accompanied by an adult)
I studied jewellery design in the 1990’s but continued my interest as a hobby rather than a career. After discovering lampworking, I was drawn towards glass as a medium to incorporate into my jewellery designs as a way to inject colour and bring contrast to the silver used. In 2004 I started my business 'Suzanne Jewellery'.

A fabulous course with good clear and patient teaching skills. Suzanne was very warm and welcoming and her work space is lovely. There was a lot of freedom of choice with colours, design and I was made to feel very relaxed. Time disappeared far too quickly- I hadn't realised how much I'd been concentrating. A very mindful afternoon of being totally absorbed making lovely jewellery.

Response from Suzanne Jewellery:So pleased you enjoyed your workshop. Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Suzanne
I attended this workshop with my daughter and can honestly say if was fantastic. I have taken lots of craft courses and my daughter is an artist so we thought we would be easy. Lampworking requires a great deal of skill, however Suzanne was very patient and calm offering all the support we needed. Our beads then arrived in the post like little jewels. No faults at all and will definitely try and do this again.

I bought a half day beginners workshop as a gift for myself and a family member, having vowed to buy more locally produced gifts or experiences from now on.
Communication before the course was fantastic, very informative so we knew where we were going and what we would be doing.
On arrival we were treated to a very warm welcome in Suzanne’s lovely workshop, which was very well appointed with a wide range of beautiful coloured glass rods.
Suzanne’s teaching style was great, explaining all the health and safety bits and a bit about what she does, before getting straight into demonstrating what we were going to do. As the session went on, we got more confident with the glass and produced some lovely beads.
I found the process very hypnotic, definitely good for practicing a bit of mindfulness starting into the bright flame and watching the glass change shape.
I’m sure I will be back for another session!

Bit apprehensive at first.
Then thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great support and encouragement.
My beads were not perfect but I did enjoy the learning process and I feel I grasped the basics by the end of the session.
Will need practice and patience.
Suzanne was extremely helpful and patient.

If you have considered having a go at lampworking then i strongly recommend this course. Suzanne is friendly and extremely patient, her workshop is very well equiped and there are always cups of tea on the go! I only did the half day workshop but was amazed at how much was achieved in that time, and also at how fast the time went, a sure sign of enjoying it! I cant wait to have another go as soon as i get chance and if you are considering it then get on and book it. Thankyou Suzanne for a great day 😊

My daughter booked this course as a birthday present which I attended yesterday. I had a fantastic session which was very well organised to make it enjoyable and informative. Suzanne was friendly and professional making me feel at ease to enjoy the session. It was good to have all the safety aspects discussed at the beginning ensuring I understood the process of lampworking and relaxed when I made my own beads. I made a variety of beads under Suzanne,s guidance and would recommend this course to anyone wanting to try something different but truly enjoyable. Thank you very much Suzanne.

Response from Suzanne Jewellery:So pleased you enjoyed your workshop Susan. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
I brought my daughter for her 14th birthday and we both had a really inspiring, enjoyable time. It was nice to find someone who was prepared to have someone of my daughter's age as many places stipulate 16. I've always had a fascination with glass work and my daughter had been keen to try some for a while too. She was particularly keen to work with hot glass so Suzanne's workshop was perfect for her. It's also nice that beads can be easily used afterwards to create a memento of the occasion. It was a nice environment to work in, Suzanne was very friendly and helpful and the biscuits were also very nice 😊
Jennifer Denning - - #22214
Response from Suzanne Jewellery:So please you both enjoyed your workshop, I look forward to seeing what you made with your beads. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
Lampworking is something I've been wanting to try for a while. So when I came across Suzanne offering a beginners workshop, I jumped at the chance!
Suzanne was super friendly with a lot of patience, which was brilliant for someone like me who hadn't worked with glass before. The half day session went by in a flash... but it was so informative. Suzanne briefly explained her process and even the type of glass she used which I found so interesting.
The session was brilliantly put together. I was able to watch Suzanne make a bead, each step explained clearly and then basically have a go myself! As a complete novice I was surprised I was able to create what I did! It was thoroughly enjoyable and if this is something you've even remotely thought about doing - give it a go!
The half day session is brilliant for people with busy lives/work - I can only imagine what fun can be had in a full day.
Thanks so much for having me Suzanne. :)

Response from Suzanne Jewellery:So pleased you enjoyed your workshop Gemma. Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Suzanne
We had a great time on this course. Three of us attended this course, from three generations, ranging in age ( 17 to 70.) We had an amazing morning, Suzanne explained and demonstrated everything so clearly and went at our varying paces. The process is mesmerising and relaxing, we are all hooked. We received our beads 2 working days later and we are very proud of what we have produced. I would recommend it to all.
