Maker's bio

I trained as a cabinetmaker 50 years ago. As a mature student, I obtained a first class honours degree in antique furniture conservation and restoration. I set up my business, Peter White Furniture, where for the last 20 years I have been restoring and upholstering antique furniture for clients. Now in my upholstery studio, and under the name of 'The upholstery tutor' I offer upholstery courses where students will learn to upholster their own chair using traditional techniques and materials. Based in a rural setting overlooking the Warwickshire countryside.

"I’ve just started a course with Peter, upholstering a Victorian iron back armchair. I’m a complete beginner but Peter has been very patient, helpful and informative. Some of the time I have had 1:1 tutoring which is excellent value and has really helped me to progress. Would v highly recommend!"

"Really enjoying the course. Peter, the tutor, demonstrates and explains really well what is needed and ensure that he keeps a sufficiently close eye to ensure that you keep on track. Small groups ensure that you can work at your own pace and that you are neither held up nor moving too fast. Thoroughly recommend this as a fascinating and creative experience."
