Gift wrapping course held at Wortley Hall.
Brilliant day, very informative, excellent food and good company
Super day at Wortley Hall, Jo was very informative and her demos were very good and easy to follow giving 1:1 support if required. I must admit I arrived feeling a little sceptical and I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the day learning new wrapping skills. Breakfast and afternoon tea was lovely too. Thoroughly enjoyed the day with a group of lovely ladies.
What a lovely little workshop with Jo, learning new wrapping tips and tricks. Enjoyed the day with my mother-in-law on December 1st in a small group - total of 7. The afternoon tea provided was very yummy! We learned our new skills by wrapping empty brown boxes, so I would suggest bringing a few small things you can add to them, just so you have some presents to add under the tree when you get home.
Just for those curious on what we learnt:
- Wrapped a wine bottle, so suggest bringing your own
- Wrapped a circular tin - this was just on a practice one, so you could always bring something like a Celebrations Tub if you wanted to give as a gift
- Made a bow from florist ribbon
- Added pleats to our gift wrapping
- Used rosemary and pinecone for decoration
- Learned how to properly wrap without wasting so much paper (and no Scotch tape used!)
- Learned how to make a small gift bag (with tips on how to make one at any size)
Thanks Jo, you were a great teacher!
Response from More Pretty Things:
Thank you Stephanie, that's so kind of you! We loved having you on the workshop with us and glad you enjoyed it. Other than bringing a bottle (which is totally optional as we supply a substitute), we don't ask students to bring anything else, partly because some students will remember, some won't so we'd rather supply everything then we know everyone learns the same thing on the day and doesn't feel left out. But also we do this to ensure we can keep to the structure and timings of the workshop. We wouldn't be able to teach everyone the necessary skills on the day if we were getting to grips with various items brought in on top of what we already teach but thank you for taking time to feedback and we hope to see you on another of our workshops soon. Best regards, Jo ThompsonReally lovely day. Jo could not have been more welcoming, helpful and patient. Her enthusiasm and passion for beautifully wrapped gifts is infectious. My gift wrapping normally looks very thrown together so I loved learning some tips and techniques to make them look gorgeous! Lovely venue and a really relaxed, enjoyable day. A real treat! Would definitely recommend.
Today I attended the ‘Creative Spring Gift Wrapping’ course, run by Jo, that was held at Horsley Hall in Derby. It was a surprise birthday present from a friend who knows me very well and the gift was just perfect. Jo was friendly, welcoming and above all very knowledgable; she can make something from nothing! The day was well structured, well paced and the venue itself just perfect for this type of day. We carried out a number of wrapping tasks, learning tricks and techniques along the way that will without doubt be of use in everyday situations. Being able to take examples of our achievements home meant friends and family were able to see the fruits of the days labour and needless to say they were very impressed! Thank you for a great day Jo, I’ll be recommending ‘More Pretty Things’ to friends and colleagues.
Wonderful course. Taught me how pleasurable gift wrapping can be, and I have already put it into practise with my Christmas presents. Jo was patient and very encouraging which helped me to be proud of the work I had done. Will definitely book on another course to advance the skills I have so far learnt. Would recommend this course to everyone.
What a great day! Lovely venue, delicious lunch and new skills learned in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Jo is an excellent teacher who ensures a stress free, enjoyable day. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.
What a great day! Beautiful setting, lovely lunch, brilliant teaching from Jo and most of all new skills and fabulous ideas to make presents look amazing! Highly recommend this course - you will love it!
What a fantastic day, fun and informative. Jo is a brilliant teacher, explaining everything clearly and patiently and demonstrating the techniques clearly, even awkward shapes are now not scary any more! No more shop bought gift bags for me from now on, I'm inspired!
Horsley Lodge as a venue is easy to find and very welcoming. We were really well looked after with freshly baked biscuits and home made scones at lunch time. All beautifully decorated for Christmas too.
Thoroughly recommend this course and Jo as a teacher,
I really enjoyed this course and learnt so much. Jo is a great tutor and made everyone feel at ease. I used to hate wrapping presents but I'm looking forward to wrapping my xmas presents this year. I would definitely recommend this course.
This course surpassed my expectations and I would readily attend another. The course was held in a lovely, old stone hotel right next to Ripon Cathedral and the service was very good from the start - both the hotel staff and Jo/Julie. Jo & Julie had everything well prepared and, from the start, Jo gave clear explanations as to what we were doing. The pace was good - in some courses, it can be tedious when waiting for the next step but not on this course. At the outset, we were shown how to wrap a box - that might seem obvious but I learned the tricks as to how to do it properly. We learned how to wrap those awkward shaped presents & excellent & easy ways to decorate. It was an excellent way to switch off and tap into your creative side. I would highly recommend it others and look forward to attending another course in 2018.
Today I attended the More Pretty Things 'creative gift-wrapping course' with 2 friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Jo was very warm and welcoming and her expertise and teaching skills are second to none.
The hotel was set in beautiful grounds and the food was excellent.
I would definitely recommend this course.
Attended this creative gift wrapping course with More Pretty Things today and I am still buzzing. Everything was spot on - the venue was idyllic and the food was fantastic. However, my ability to gift wrap is amazing - it's a good job it's Christmas. Jo is incredible. Her skills are second to none, her patience is unlimited and her tutoring is excellent as she was able to manage a group of people with different abilities and increased all their skills. The confidence she inspires is rewarding.
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone and can't wait to attend the next one - after I've practised over Christmas.
Thank you very much.
Huge fun......Jo is a lovely lady who passes her (considerable) skills on with enthusiasm, patience and tact. It was very relaxing and friendly and the time flew by. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone, it would also make a great friends day out/present.

Jo is the perfect hostess and extremely competent in her ability to pass on her gift wrapping tips.
I would highly recommend these courses to anyone.
I am soon to take part in another course - the first was excellent so had to enrol on a second. Jo is a superb instructor and the quality of the materials were also excellent. I cannot wait to join her again in Ripon.
What a fantastic course and a wonderful lady! Thoroughly enjoyed the gift wrapping workshop, learnt so much and would now class myself as a super wrapper ;-)
Thanks so much Jo, will definitely be coming to another class soon.
