The Woven Briar is my weaving workshop based in the rolling hills on the edge of Exmoor.
Using blade shorn fleeces from my flock and harvested or foraged plant materials, I create textiles and craft materials that are fully traceable and sustainable.
I offer tuition in my workshop in Ford as well as a social spinning group in Wiveliscombe.
I have a flock of rare breed sheep which I keep for their beautiful and versatile fleeces, blade shorn to improve the length of fibre and the welfare of the animal.
I wash, spin and weave the wool into beautiful one of a kind pieces right here on the farm, creating 100% natural, biodegradable, sustainable pieces in tune with the seasons. I also send fleeces to a fibre mill just an hour from our fields, to be made in to sliver and yarn, suitable for felting and spinning.
All of our animals are grass-fed, well cared for with the highest regard for their welfare and health.
"I had a wonderful four-day course with Bec — it was both professional and full of joy.
This was my first time in the UK, and on the first day, Bec kindly took me around the town and introduced me to the local area.
Besides her professional teaching, she also shared so much about British culture, which made me feel deeply connected to this country.
English is obviously not my first language, but Bec’s patience and clear explanations helped me understand everything easily.
She even prepared written notes to help me follow along better, which I really appreciated.
My family joined the course with me — my mum doesn’t speak English at all, but she still had a great time!
I truly feel that Bec’s kindness and passion go beyond language barriers.
In just four days, I learned and experienced so much.
I’d love to come back for more classes in the future.
Highly recommended! 🌟"
The Woven Briar Ltd responded:
"Thank you all so much for a wonderful week. I had so much fun sharing my joy for wool with you. Keeping touch xx "
"Excellent beginners’ course, Bec is very knowledgeable and puts across her information accurately. She explains things well and spends time with the less able students to ensure they have a good experience. She has her own sheep and can explain the whole process based on her experience.
Would definitely recommend. "
The Woven Briar Ltd responded:
"Thank you Sue I look forward to seeing what you make. Keep in touch!"
"Very relaxed and enjoyable weekend; I was not learning from scratch but picking up spinning after a number of years and found it excellent for re-igniting my enthusiasm for all things woolly!
Loved the rural destination and meeting the flock, recommended to beginners and returners alike."
The Woven Briar Ltd responded:
"Thank you so much Jan and for a very lovely day spinning together. "
