"Very enjoyable. A small group of us in a well-equipped workshop, and excellent tuition from a professional. Traditional woodcarving with a mallet and chisel can seem daunting, but the chosen projects enabled us to make progress and built confidence to enter a new hobby. Thanks Gerry."

"We had an amazing time learning to wood carve with Gerry! We were complete beginners and were so pleased with what we were able to achieve by the the end of the weekend - So sad we couldn't have stayed longer and learnt more (Although I'm not too sure my hands would agree)! Highly recommended to ANYONE who wants to have a go at wood carving, no matter your skill level. Also a special thanks to Gerry's wife Barbara for her excellent hospitality, we couldn't have made it through without a delicious lunch, tea and chocolate biscuits! We would absolutely love to attend one of Gerry's courses again in the future but until then we are confident to carry on practicing on our own, with the help of his YouTube videos :-)"

Helen reviewed: Woodcarving for beginners - two day course in Suffolk

"I thoroughly enjoyed the two day beginners course I attended with Gerry. He was an excellent teacher and taught us clearly, kindly, patiently and with lots of humour. I have come away with two items I carved over the weekend, impressing friends and relations with them. That is something I had not anticipated! I also know which bits of equipment will be most helpful to me as I start practising woodcarving on my own. The frequent tea and biscuits were lovely and Gerry and Barbara were courteous hosts. Thank you both!"

Lots of really good advice in a friendly and non-competitive environment from a hugely gifted and experienced woodcarver. Many thanks to Barbara for a tasty lunch, too. Learn, explore and be inspired."

"Thanks Andy Lovely group today. A joy to teach."

"Gerry gives confidence, even for absolute beginners in wood carving, by offering step by step expert demonstrations and calm supportive one to one mentoring. He and his wife Barbara opened their house for lunch and we were treated to delicious homemade soup and sandwiches. He negotiated with all participants to take a Covid lateral flow test at the start of the first day. I feel inspired to continue wood carving."

"Highly recommended. Gerry is both a craftsman and a teacher, if you have any glowing embers of interest in carving wood the beginners course will ignite your interest. I've just completed the beginners course which was informative, productive (brought 2 carvings home) and fun!"

"Just finished a beginners course and thoroughly enjoyed it. Gerry is clearly a master of his craft but also has considerable patience and an ability to give encouragement and help raw beginners such as myself to gain confidence. The course was bought for me as a birthday present and I have now signed up for an ongoing course to learn more. I am looking forward to it and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who fancies having a go."

"I thoroughly enjoyed my day on Gerry's course. The set up of the workshop is excellent and it is great to be introduced to and then be able to use good quality tools under the watchful eye of an great craftsman. Gerry is supportive and cheerful - as well as having obvious expertise. It is very encouraging to leave at the end of the day with a piece you have made yourself. I will be going back for more !"

"Gerry has a great set up for his wood carving courses. Covid principles and health and safety adherence was up front. Great hospitality was on offer. Gerry is a good teacher enabling people new to wood carving, to experience a range of tools and techniques in a relaxed way. Gerry was supportive and encouraging. I left the day immensely pleased with my scallop shell carving. I will definitely be back for more. Thank you"

"This was a fantastic introduction to wood carving. I thoroughly enjoyed it, lots to learn but Gerald is literally the most patient person I have ever met, and answers all your repeated questions like it's the first time. He had such a passion for the craft and that is really infectious...it makes you want to continue. Add to that the delicious food provided by his wife and the never ending supply of tea and biccies, it's a winning combination. Try for yourself....you won't be disappointed."

Woodcarving Course reviewed: Woodcarving Beginners one day

"This was a one day introductory course. The day was superb in every respect. The quality of instruction, the opportunities to try the techniques and the fact that an artefact (a carved shell) was the outcome of the day made for an excellent introduction. I can recommend such a course and the quality of Gerald Adams' coaching without a single reservation. In addition, the refreshments and lunch made for a great atmosphere."

Paul Judge reviewed: Woodcarving for beginners - two day course in Suffolk

"This was my first experience with woodcarving, and I found Gerry to be an excellent and supportive teacher. His choice of projects was clearly based on lots of experience of teaching, alongside his own finely honed skills. He gave detailed instruction and demonstration of each stage, gradually introducing us to a number of tools, and how to use them effectively. The first day we all carved a scallop shell, and the second day worked on individual projects. Throughout, he was able to pass on helpful tips based on his many years of professional experience carving wood. He also gave us detailed instruction on sharpening, and by the end we had all tried sharpening gouges to the exacting standards needed for fine work. He gave us a very useful list of recommended 'essential' tools to go forward with woodcarving, and some pointers to the best sources for purchasing them. It was a very enjoyable and instructive weekend; I learnt a lot, will definitely continue woodcarving (when time permits!) and definitely recommend Gerry's courses."

Charlotte reviewed: Woodcarving for beginners - two day course in Suffolk

"I had a fantastic time on Gerry's 2 day beginners course this January 2020. I was a total beginner. I learnt so much, and feel I achieved so much too! This was thanks to Gerry's excellent teaching style and to the great resources available to us all. I loved the way everything was demonstrated in a step-by-step way, as well as how core information about the wood and the tools was shown and discussed. It was possibly one of the most relaxing and therapeutic things I have ever done. I'd love to try the weekly classes."

Gerald Adams Woodcarvers Ltd responded:

"Thanks for the lovely review Charlotte. It would great to have you at a weekly class. Still spaces on a Tuesday. Keep in touch. Thanks again Gerry"

Matt Groves reviewed: Woodcarving for beginners - two day course in Suffolk

"I booked this course for my Father as a birthday gift. In all booking arrangements, Gerry was friendly, helpful and proactive. The booking process as well as the information provided about both travel and the course was all excellent and clear. My Father loved the course. He found it tiring due to the amount of information that was being imparted, but at the same time thoroughly enjoyable and it has ignited a passion in him to do more carving. His feedback was that Gerry was an excellent teacher, hugely skilled and knowledgeable, but always patient and helpful. He found that he could achieve far better results than he expected. I am hoping to book him on another course with Gerry that can extend his skills further, once he has had time to tinker with and develop those skills that he has already learned."

Dr Tim reviewed: Woodcarving for beginners - two day course in Suffolk

"I have been professionally involved in arts and crafts education all my working life and have sampled and taken part in numerous short courses. I must say that this two-day course in woodcarving was outstanding. Gerry is a time-served craftsman with a pedigree which can be traced back to the pinnacle of European woodcarving. However, one rarely finds craftsmen with such high technical standards capable of imparting their knowledge to students in a sympathetic and meaningful way. Gerry is an exception; with a patient, good-humoured teaching style, he has the gift of imparting to the learner a belief in their potential and this leads to that all-important self-confidence, which lies at the heart of quality craft education."
