Even though it rained all day we had a really cheery day. We learnt a great new skill, had a fantastic lunch and bucket loads of coffee. Julie and her partner made us very welcome and I look forward to taking part in another course.

Julie is a wonderfully warm and friendly artist that welcomes you with open arms. When I arrived I met the other attendees and we had a lovely cup of tea. It was a great bunch of crafters! We had a very informative introduction to Rag Rugging by Julie and she handed out workpacks and textbooks for inspiration. She also showed her previous works of art in different shapes and materials. Then helped us all prep with designs and fabric choices and start off. There were enough tools, fabric and cups of tea for everyone! In her cabin it was a great crafting atmosphere and we soon got going! It was lunchtime before we knew it, which was also a delicious little buffet. I was especially chuffed with all the vegan options Julie had especially got in for some of us :).
After lunch half of the group learnt how to do the spider web embroidery and Julie was very attentive, they all did such a great job, but she didn't forget about is continuing with out rugs. Plenty of support and more tea!
It was a shame when the day was over, I for one could have stayed in that craft cabin a while longer progging away.
Overall it was an absolute delight hearing about Julie's crafting and canal life, meeting the other attendees, lunch! and coming always with a very good start to a Rag rug.
Thanks very much for a very happy birthday, Julie! See you soon xx

We had a very good day. Julie was very skilful in teaching the steps to painting roses and expected us all to achieve a good standard whatever our previous experience. All materials provided and lunch was great. A relaxed, friendly atmosphere made for an enjoyable but very productive day.

Julie is a relaxed and inspiring teacher, meticulous with her explanations, patient and encouraging in her manner, navigating you through the complicated steps it takes to create stunning canal boat art in the traditional style. Whether you are interested in learning to paint in this style, or simply looking for a day sampling a craft you have never tried before, Julie's class is the perfect place to discover the craftsperson in you. I have already been on two of Julie's courses and look forward to another session in the future.

I cannot recommend Julie too highly. The day was really enjoyable, well organised and well executed. The people on the course (6) in total, had a wide range of knowledge and talent. Julie's teaching was fantastic and everyone of us completed the project with great satisfaction. I am so enthused by it that I have now booked the more advanced course on 11th March and I can't wait to get started. Thank you Julie.

Fabulous! I have almost zero artistic ability and even I produced a plate that had my family amazed! Well taught, in small easy stages. And with a great lunch and plenty of coffee thrown in!
A craft worth learning from an excelleny tutor.
Thank you.

What an excellent course. It was a great opportunity to have a go at a wonderful traditional craft. It was very informative and Julie is a very good, patient teacher, Whose guidance enabled me to produce a painted item which as a complete novice I didn't know I was capable of! A fabulous day which I would highly recommend.

What a fabulous day. I am exhausted now but I learnt so much on techniques, brush work, blending, roses, castles you name it we learnt it. Well worth the cost and I came home with brushes and instructions to carry it on. Thanks Julie.

Hello Julie
It was a very enjoyable day. It was a bit daunting as a beginner and although arty with wood carving and pottery my painting skills are beginner stage. To do the course with 2 very able painters made me very self conscious, but they were lovely people. You were right when I was home and seeing my work in isolation it did look much better to me.

Julie welcomed us with a cup of tea, and after a short chat we went to the log cabin in her garden. Then we had a wonderful day just watching, listening and painting. Such a lovely, quiet day, with lots of encouragement and Julie stepping us through the stages of painting a plate with a castle in the centre and roses around the rim. I learned SO much - about paint, brushes, techniques - and by the end of the day I had a plate to take home. It wasn't perfect, of course, but it was a million times better than my brief solo attempts. And I could see how I could improve the next time.
We had a delicious lunch, lots more cups of tea, and I went home with my plate, some brushes and paint, and a couple of other items to paint. I can't wait!
Julie is such a good teacher.
