Description

This class is suitable for those who are new to jewellery making and would like to try something new. Jewellery designer and teacher, Sheila Roussel will introduce you to some basic techniques in an informal workshop. At this beginners' jewellery workshop you will learn some jewellery making techniques including soldering, filing and wire wrapping. The small group numbers will enable you to have lots of hands-on tutoring and guidance throughout the workshop and finish with your star sign pendant you will be proud of. You will start by using a small blow torch to melt silver into a nugget, then you'll use hammers to shape your nugget and apply your star sign punch to the surface. You'll also learn how to solder a jump ring and use wire wrapping to attach a coloured bead of your choice to correspond to your birth sign. Throughout the workshop you'll be shown and guided how to use the pliers, hammers, files and other tools safely. NOTE: Please contact me first to enquire if the date is available as all the dates are on request.

What's included in the price?

The £65 fee includes the use of all tools, equipment and metals you'll need for the workshop. You will be supplied with 2 grams of sterling silver, silver wire, a small coloured glass/semi precious bead to correspond to your required birth stone and a sterling silver chain. Maker

I currently design and make my jewellery from my studio at home in Birkhill, Angus, making work for private commissions, exhibitions and contemporary gift shops. I studied Jewellery and Metalwork at Duncan of Jordanstone , Dundee and graduated in June 2014 with BDes (hons) 1st class. My background is in Community Learning and Development and I currently work in the V & A Dundee as a freelance designer; as an Craft and Jewellery tutor with Fairmuir Adult Association and as the Craft tutor with NEST Creative Spaces, Blairgowrie. I also run beginners jewellery workshops which are advertised here and on my Facebook page. My jewellery designs are influenced by the beauty of natural forms, their vibrant colours and delicate structures. An ongoing collection of heirloom keepsakes, trinkets and charms adds further inspiration to my work. My designs evolve from immersing myself in making collages, sketching, photography and experimenting with a range of techniques and materials. Taking these initial ideas I make a variety of individual elements using textured sterling silver, hand patterned aluminium and semi-precious beads. These pieces are used either individually or combined with each other to create my collections.
