Willow Weaving: Dragonfly Sculpture
Description
Make a beautiful multi-coloured willow dragonfly to brighten your home or garden. You’ll craft both the body and wings separately using a selection of different willows, then join them before weaving decorative detail into the wings. These lightweight sculptures can be displayed on fences, walls, trees, or suspended to appear mid-flight. With care — and a coat of wood oil once dry — they’ll last outdoors for many years. This is a fun, creative project introducing shaping, pairing, binding and decorative weaving. This workshop is ideal for beginners and those with some experience. Chaz Friend is the willow artist behind Wayside Willow, sharing the craft of willow weaving with schools, community groups and adults across the Midlands and beyond. After 24 years as a primary teacher, Chaz followed his passion for heritage crafts and has been teaching willow weaving since 2014. Friendly, patient and endlessly enthusiastic about the possibilities of willow, Chaz brings warmth, humour and deep knowledge to every workshop. The course will take place in our Heritage Craft barn at Stanwick Lakes, a beautiful 750-acre nature reserve and visitor attraction in the heart of Northamptonshire’s Nene Valley.
