Transforming Glass: Printing, Etching and Foils in New Romney, Kent
Description
This immersive one-day workshop introduces the creative potential of silk screen printing on glass, combining hands-on making with a wide range of decorative techniques. Designed to feel both inspiring and approachable, the day allows you to explore how printed imagery, colour, texture and surface detail can transform glass into expressive finished pieces. You’ll begin by developing your own silk screen design, learning how imagery is prepared and transferred before printing directly onto glass using specialist screens and enamels. Seeing your design appear on glass is a real highlight of the process and offers a strong foundation for understanding how this versatile technique can be used creatively. Once printed, your work will be placed into the kiln to fire. During this time, you’ll continue experimenting with other accessible glass decoration methods, including the use of ready-made screens, vibrant enamels and oven-bake paints. These techniques are particularly useful for anyone interested in working at home or without regular access to kiln facilities. After lunch, the focus shifts to finishing and surface detail. You’ll explore glass etching to introduce contrast and softness, followed by decorative embellishment using metallic creams and copper foil cut-outs. These final stages bring depth and refinement to your pieces, allowing everything you’ve learned throughout the day to come together. The workshop is technique-rich and thoughtfully paced, making it suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous creative experience. It’s especially valuable for anyone keen to learn methods that can be adapted beyond the studio, encouraging continued experimentation and confidence with glass decoration. By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a solid understanding of silk screen printing on glass, several finished and decorated pieces to take home, and the practical knowledge needed to develop these techniques further in your own time.
