It doesn't matter how much potting experience you have - total beginner or happy hobby potter, Dave has plenty of time to tutor each individual, and so the making schedule can be flexible. As Dave is a thrower, a large part of the pottery course will be spent on the wheel learning the different techniques. We have 7 wheels for 7 people.
Day one involves getting to grips with the wheel and the basic techniques.
Day two is spent turning, handles, finishing off the pots and platemaking.
Day three is a RAKU firing day, when you can fire pots made earlier in the week.
You can take your raku fired pots home with you, whilst the rest of your work can be fired and glazed by Dave and sent to you if you wish. There is an extra cost for this.
Pottery tuition begins at 9am (after a hearty breakfast for residential potters) and we stop at about 11 for a coffee break (cake or biscuits provided!). We then work until 1pm when we stop for a delicious seasonal homemade lunch.
Back to the studio from 2pm to 4pm, when formal pottery tuition ends, although you can work on if you wish. We do not provide dinner on a nightly basis but there are plenty of great places to eat out in the village, from fish and chips to Thai and Indian restaurants to mention but a few!
There are only seven places per pottery class meaning Dave has time to tutor each individual.
All meals are cooked by a friend of the family (who is an excellent chef!!), and served in the atmospheric converted hayloft above the studio, or in the courtyard over looking Rosie the Gypsy wagon and the woodland garden on sunny days.
It's a mucky business so make sure you don't come in your best clothes!
Why not take the opportunity to make a weekend of it and stay in our fantastic B&B accommodation.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?

Included in the price, Dave will fire and glaze three of your pots ready for collection. There is an extra charge for postage.
