What you will gain: - A supportive and gentle teaching approach with the space and freedom to learn at your own pace. - A chance to slow down and get creative with skills that can be used to turn your clothing into a wearable scrapbook. - Gain confidence in using these hand sewing skills for future repairs. More about Swiss Darning for Knitwear Repair: Visible mending allows us all to squash those perfectionist fears by embracing bold and creative repairs that celebrate all of our hand worked and wonky stitches. Mended is better than perfect and choosing to repair the clothes we love instead of buying new also shows the fashion industry that we care about the stories of our clothing from the textile farmers growing the cotton through to the garment workers who made the clothes. Visible mending can also turn your clothing into a wearable scrapbook, capturing the life you are living in them and making every garment uniquely yours. Swiss darning is a repair technique that mimics the original knit structure of a garment and can be used to either repair holes in clothing or embellish areas creatively. Over the course of the day we’ll look at how to use duplicate stitch to trace the knit stitches and create a colourful pattern on a fabric sampler and then move onto learning how to repair a hole. Suitable for confident beginners, prior knitting or mending will be beneficial.
What's included in the price?
You will be provided with fabric samplers to work on throughout the day, but feel free to bring along a garment in need of repair; this technique is best suited to chunky knit garments with small areas of damage. Please avoid smaller fine knits like socks.
