Spend the day learning how to knot a macramé plant hanger using cotton cord. Your tutor Sam will guide you step-by-step through several knotting techniques to create a unique decorative piece. Once finished, you will be taught how to bundle dye using flowers, seeds and leaves grown from Sam's garden, to add a unique pop of colour to your creation. More about Knot and Natural Dye a Macramé Plant Hanger: Macramé is the perfect beginners craft, with only a few materials and tools needed, you can create decorative art in a few basic knots. The macramé plant hanger course will give you time to step back and take a breather, whilst you learn the fundamentals of macramé. Sam will guide the group step-by-step through each twist, knot and loop, to form a meditative pattern of knots. You'll begin by selecting the un-dyed cord lengths and learn the first knot to attach these to the hoop. Throughout the session, variations of knots will be taught, allowing plenty of time to practice several different techniques to form patterns using the cords. For best practice, the group will work on one length at a time to create a knot pattern, which will then be copied on the rest of the lengths. Examples of cord patterns will be on hand for inspiration, but participants have free rein to create their own unique hanger and knot pattern. To finish the macramé hanger, you will form two final knots that will attach the cords together to allow a plant pot to be displayed in the final piece. In the afternoon, we will give our hands a rest from macramé, allowing the group to fully immerse in the magical process of natural dyeing. Sam will talk about the process of natural dyeing and participants will be able to smell and touch all of the home grown produce available such as flowers, seeds and leaves. Thereafter, you will begin to colour the cotton cords of the finished plant hangers with a process called bundle dyeing. The cords will have been pre-mortanted, allowing us to sprinkle on the natural material and tightly wrap the cords to create a bundle, which will then be steamed. Whilst the steaming is taking place, the group will have the chance to take a tour of the charming grounds and gardens to view dye wildflowers in their natural environment. Once steamed, the final macramé pieces will be carefully unwrapped to reveal a beautiful colourful speckled effect from the dye, meaning every plant hanger will be completely unique. Participants will leave the workshop feeling accomplished with new skills in traditional crafts and with an amazing decorative macramé plant hanger to adorn their home.
