I am offering one day stained glass making courses in my workshop, a lovely light, bright space in Portslade, near the station.
You will notice that there is a calendar but I would advise that you message me before you book online.
I have been making mirrors and working with glass since 1991 and thought it would be fun to offer one to one tuition to anyone who likes the idea of learning the basics of the Tiffany copper foil technique. You will learn the skills needed to make a small mirror, or stained glass panel, or a sun-catcher to hang in your window or whatever your imagination dictates.
Copper foiling entails cutting pieces of glass to the desired size and shape. These are then foiled and soldered together. All very straightforward but is more time consuming that you think! So, in order to satisfactorily finish your design in the time allowed, a maximum of ten pieces of glass is recommended per design and your finished piece, if a mirror or a panel, will be approx 12" x 6". If you have a specific project in mind I am happy to discuss this with you. Depending on the size this could mean an adjustment to the course price and possibly more than one day.
If you have a rough idea of what you would like to do that's fine, but in my experience this idea often changes once the student has more of a grasp on the skills required and the time involved. So, I would suggest coming along with an open mind and let's see how things develop. If you look at my pics, this will give you an idea of what you can achieve.
As this is a one on one course I will be guiding you at all times to ensure you are happy with everything you are doing.
Your course will start at 10am and finish at 4.30pm with a half hour lunch break. If we need to stay on a bit longer in order for you to finish your design, then that’s fine. These times are flexible though, within reason.
I like being able to give my attention to one person rather than doing groups of people, but if you wanted to come along with a friend and learn together, then do just let me know. The cost for 2 will be £160.00.
There is onsite parking and I am also on a main bus route and am close to Portslade station.
I would advise, to be absolutely on the safe side, that maybe this course is not suitable for pregnant women.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Included in the price are all materials and tea/coffee/biscuits.
You can either bring a packed lunch or grab something at one of the shops/cafes in the area. And there will be tea, coffee and biscuits available at all times.
1 day (flexible times to suit)

Emma is a brilliant, teacher, very easy to talk and listen to making the whole day a pleasurable, friendly experience. Everything explained and taught so well, that I came away with my own beautiful suncatcher and has encouraged me to carry on learning more. Will highly recommend to all with an interest in stained glass or to just learn something new and creative.
Thank you, Emma.
Had a fantastic day with Emma learning the basics of copper foil stained glass making. She helped with ideas but the pieces we made were very much our own, being guided through with encouragement we completed a piece each that we are both proud of that are now hung in ideal places in our home.
We would highly recommend if you are considering doing this course.
I would also like to say that I changed my booking after my husband decided he’d like to do it with me and Emma was extremely helpful and accommodating which we appreciated.
Thanks Emma we really enjoyed our time with you, especially the banter along the way! Lovely day.
We had a lovely day with Emma. She's a great teacher and made us feel relaxed and at ease. Thank you, Fletcher & Sirpa.
I had a wonderful day learning the techniques of cutting, copper-foiling and soldering stained glass in a spacious inspiring workshop. Emma is a highly skilled teacher who listened carefully to my ideas and helped me patiently to create a beautiful panel that I am very proud of.
An absolutely fantastic experience which I cannot recommend highly enough!
I had a fantastic day with Emma! She was very knowledgeable and explained all the process and different glasses and techniques to me and answered all my questions. She was very kind and charming and it was a lovely day. Would 10/10 recommend
My Mum and I had a wonderful day with Emma. I bought the voucher as a 70th birthday present for my Mum and it was a really special day. Emma is a brilliant teacher, so patient in teaching us the skills involved, helping us design and select which glass to use; we both learned a lot and came home with a stained glass panel each we love. We also had fun chatting with Emma, it felt like a lovely girlie day. The workshop is in a nice part of Hove, surrounded by sweet coffee shops and cafes, and we were able to sit in nearby Brunswick Square and eat our lunch. Heartily recommended.
My mum and brother had a fantastic time! They were so enthusiastic about the day when I spoke to them after, and their creations look beautiful! Thank you so much for making it such a lovely day for them and for excellent communication throughout booking. We all highly recommend the course.
My sister and I had a great day with Emma at her workshop in Hove. It was fun and interesting, and we had enough time to learn the basic techniques and each make a stunning piece to be proud of. I definitely recommend this course to anyone - no experience needed - Emma is a great teacher and you will be sure to go home with something amazing.
Ref Hazel & Pauline.
My sister and I had a fabulous day learning how to create stained glass artwork. Emma is a great teacher, she is very knowlegable and explained the processes patiently ensuring we understood before moving on to the next step. Having never done anything like this before there was alot of information to absorb but Emma is brilliant and made the whole day enjoyable from beginning to end. A memorable day!! What a wonderful day! Emma is patient and and a wonderfully inspiring teacher - the day seemed to fly! I had a ball and can't thank you enough!
I thoroughly enjoyed my day with Emma making a small stained glass window to put in the gap above our downstairs loo door. I was really pleased when Emma agreed to help me make a bespoke piece and with her excellent expert guidance I've ended up with something unique and colourful to brighten up our hallway. Emma is friendly, relaxed and encouraging and we had a great chat as I worked under her watchful eye! I would definitely recommend this course to anyone.

I really enjoyed every aspect of my day. I spent the morning practising all of the techniques needed and getting used to the tools. The afternoon was spent making a piece to bring home. Emma allowed me choose from a great selection of colours and styles to make a glass panel that I am delighted with. Emma was encouraging throughout. I had no experience of this craft when I arrived but came away inspired to pursue it further. Thank you, Emma.
I had the most amazing day with Emma.
She is a wonderful, kind and patient teacher. I am not a very confident person and Emma made me believe in myself and gave me so much confidence.
I came home with a beautiful mirror, which had lots of angled cuts that I had achieved myself. Emma has given me the confidence to try something else.
I cannot recommend her enough. Brilliant
Had a wonderful day with Emma. It was so informative and such fun, would happily recommend it to anyone interested in stained glass. It was well worth the 2 hour drive for me to get there from Portsmouth. Would recommend any drivers to look at Justpark online as parking is limited as you would expect in that area. Highly recommended course.
My friend and I had an amazing day with Emma. Really great to try something new. She was incredibly patient and knowledgable and we both came away with something we were incredibly happy with.
Would highly recommend to anyone looking to try something new!
I have just come back from a wonderful day with Emma. I learnt so much in a few hours and have come home with a lovely piece of glass work. Emma is really good at teaching you what to do but making you do it yourself so the piece is very much yours. I thoroughly recommend giving this course a go
I really enjoyed learning the techniques of copperfoiling stained glass with Emma. She is a welcoming, patient and experienced instructor. It was a really lovely day ~ I'm coming back and bringing my daughter next time!
A really enjoyable and relaxing day. Emma was patient and a skilled teacher. She made everything very achievable and we left, proud owners of our own stained glass mirrors!
I cannot recommend this highly enough. We learnt, we created, we laughed... What more could we ask for. Thank you Emma!
