Stained glass one day course for beginners: for two people
Description
I am offering one day stained glass making courses in my workshop, a lovely light, bright space in Portslade. You will notice that there is a calendar but I would advise against relying on that and I recommend that you message me before you book! I will respond to you quickly and, this way, we can make sure that we come up with a mutually satisfactory day. I have been making mirrors and working with glass since 1991 and thought it would be fun to offer one to one tuition to anyone who likes the idea of learning the basics of the Tiffany copper foil technique. You will learn the skills needed to make a small mirror, or stained glass panel, or a sun-catcher to hang in your window or just let your creativity flow! Copper foiling entails cutting pieces of glass to the desired size and shape. These are then foiled and soldered together. All very straightforward but is more time consuming that you think! So, in order to satisfactorily finish your design in the time allowed, a maximum of ten pieces of glass is recommended per design and your finished piece, if a mirror or a panel, will be approx 15cms x 17cms. If you have a specific project in mind I am happy to discuss this with you prior to the course. Depending on the size this could mean an adjustment to the course price and possibly more than one day. Have a look at my pics, and this will give you an idea of what you can aim for. As this is a one on one course I will be guiding you at all times to ensure you are happy with everything you are doing. Your course will start at 10am and finish at 4.30pm with a half hour lunch break. If we need to stay on a bit longer in order for you to finish your design, then that’s fine. These times are flexible though, within reason. I only allow the use of one soldering iron at a time, for safety reasons. This means that with two students, sometimes the amount of glass used for your individual piece may have to be reduced, so that you are both able to complete your masterpieces in the allotted time! There is onsite parking at weekends and I am also on a main bus route. Also close to Portslade station. I would advise, to be absolutely on the safe side, that maybe this course is not suitable for pregnant women as the solder contains lead.
