About the Course
This class runs over four consecutive Saturdays mornings starting on 19 Jan. We start by taking you through the basic functions of a sewing machine and how it works.
Classes are designed to give you a thorough grounding in all the essential sewing know-how, gradually building your confidence in a variety of useful techniques which can be applied to any project. You’ll come away with samples and notes.
The class is suitable for absolute beginners, those who’ve stumbled along without any formal training and the very rusty!
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Calico, for samples, will be provided, along with handouts as we go along but you'll need to bring:
- notebook and pen
- tape measure and ruler
- your sewing machine and thread
- specs if you need them!
Before I attended Catherine's classes, I had little idea of how to use my sewing machine properly or how to sew even simple items well. Now, when I wear something I made, I actually get the occasional compliment!

Catherine is a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable and skilled and able to communicate those sewing skills in a practical and down to earth way. I go to Catherine's classes regularly and have made some lovely clothes. I highly recommend any of the sewing courses offered by The Sewing Room.
