Description

Dates for the 3 day courses are: - Saturdays 21st March, and 4th and 11th April 2026 10:30 - 15:30. In this series of workshops you will learn to "read" a commercial pattern, what all the markings mean, how you transfer them to your fabric, and how you adjust a pattern to your own size. We will deal with all the fitting issues you may come across, and alter the pattern to change the length/sleeves, to make it uniquely yours. We will then cut your garment and stitch it up. This class is not like some other classes which focus primarily on the sewing. I am passionate about fit and about you learning to alter a pattern to make it work for you, which can also include altering the neckline, darts, sleeves, etc. This is a very comprehensive class! We will make the same pattern to keep it simple and achievable. The pattern will be a dress with a variety of sleeves and includes pockets, darts, and facings. I will email you once you book to let you know about fabric requirements, etc. The price for the whole course is for 3x5 hour classes and includes the use of machines, tools, threads, the pattern for you to take home, interfacing, but not the fabric for your garment nor your thread. We will discuss what you need before the first class. You may want to bring a notebook, although there will be handouts in the form of my sewing handbook, too. This is a small group class (2-4 students), so there is plenty of one-to-one attention, whilst learning in a fun, unpressurised environment, with and from other students. You do not need to be a whizz on the machine, this class is fine to take after the beginners or zips class! I have been teaching sewing classes since 2011, I am passionate about sewing and teaching and believe anyone can sew. I am also passionate about fit, and will help you achieve a great fitting garment by teaching you how to alter your pattern to fit your beautiful, unique body. My classes are small, friendly and held in my dedicated studio in my garden. I often teach people who are neurodiverse, so you are in good company here, and I am flexible in adjusting the class to work for everyone. I also have shorter courses dealing with knit fabrics as well as class making clothes for kids. Please scroll down and select 'see all listings' for more.
