Free motion machine embroidery is a very addictive technique which is becoming very popular. Learn how to draw in stitch using your sewing machine, and take home a finished piece of textile art all ready to hang on your wall. This workshop focuses on producing a piece of work based on the theme of seed heads, grasses and flowers.
I will start the day by going through the basic techniques, including how to set up your sewing machine. I will then guide you through the process of choosing your composition, looking at colour combinations, selecting fabrics, and stitching the detail. I will demonstrate each stage as we go along and supply inspiration in the form of photographs and actual plant specimens for you to draw from. If you have images of your own you would like to use please feel free to bring them along.
Once your piece is completed I will finish the day by teaching you how to mount and frame it, ready for you to take home with you.

What an exciting day, with lots of fabrics to choose from & lots of ideas to inspire.
Alison is a truly amazing artist & teacher. She also had a vast collection of her hand made cards available, which help with ideas for your own work.
Thank you, Alison.
A really informative course for all levels. Alison shared lots of tips and, because of the small number of participants, gave lots of individual tuition. Looking forward to the next course in September.
I really enjoyed this informative day course run by the inspirational Alison Whateley. She was very generous in her encouragement and where to source the necessary materials, all given in a very relaxed atmosphere.
