Learn to screen print using gold metal leaf with local artist and printmaker Lou Davis.
In this advanced level screen printing workshop you will learn to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens. You’ll have the opportunity to create a two-layer print with one colour layer, and one where we apply metal leaf to your design. Although no previous knowledge is assumed, you will get more from this workshop if you have attended one of our intermediate level screen printing workshops, or have some experience of screen printing using the photo emulsion method.
You’ll learn to create designs for screen printing; transfer your designs to a screen and print onto printmaking paper; and how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. You’ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.
You may want to bring some ideas for artwork with you. You can either hand draw them onto tracing paper or you can bring a digital image on a memory stick that we can print onto acetate. Digital images need to be printed in black so photos and line drawings can work well, but faint lines and subtle textures don’t transfer well.
If you’re in any doubt about whether the images you have in mind are suitable, or whether you have sufficient experience to get the most from this workshop, please get in touch before the workshop.
Refunds are not available on this booking. Start dates may be amended on request.
The Arienas Collective workshops are run from a supportive and welcoming home-based environment within Edinburgh’s City Centre Georgian New Town. We invite you to turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.
Spaces on our workshops are limited so that our artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us.
All equipment is provided, and the materials you need to complete your project are included in the price of your workshop (unless stated otherwise).
Our buffet-style refreshment breaks are an important part of all The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and experiences. They are a time to socialise, make new friends and chat to the artists and makers. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby, and feature locally sourced food and drinks wherever possible. A wide range of dietary requirements can be catered for.
PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Due to COVID-19, we have had to adapt the way we run our workshops and there may be some changes to the way it is delivered.
