Knitting with Hand Spun Yarn and meet the sheep
Contact course provider
About the Course
This workshop is aimed at knitters of all abilities that would like to experience knitting with textured one of a kind, hand spun yarn. The yarn is made by hand, from the fleece of sheep, on a traditional wooden spinning wheel. Such yarns give an originality to your knitted projects that simply cannot be obtained with mass produced yarn.
The day will flow something like this:
Arrive to hot drinks and on chilly days, get warm by the wood burner.
Chat about hand spun yarns, what goes into their creation, how they differ from commercial yarns and how you can make the most of them in your own knitting.
Choose a pattern to suit your knitting ability [scarf, cowl, cushion cover etc.]
Choose a hand spun yarn to suit you and your chosen pattern.
Cast on and get knitting.
Meet the sheep then enjoy lunch cooked on the Aga.
Continue knitting, chatting and enjoying homemade cake and hot drinks. A short demonstration of hand spinning will take place whilst you knit.
At the end of the day you’ll take home your finished item [or WIP] hand spun yarn to finish your project and your knitting needles.
Max group size is 5.
Suitable for all levels of knitting experience. If you can do a basic knit stitch that’s fine.
The workshop held on my smallholding on the border of Bury and Bolton in Lancashire.
Accessibility: the workshop is wheelchair accessible but access to the toilet is limited. Please feel free to contact me if you require more specific details. There are 4 steepish steps between the workshop and the sheep. You will need a coat but wellies/boots are NOT necessary.
