This 2-day workshop is intended for ceramicists who have limited or no previous knowledge of naked clay work or alternative firing techniques. The two-day course will cover types of clay body, making techniques, burnishing and the use of Terra Sigillata and an introduction to naked raku - both two-step and one-step. We also include a horsehair raku firing and you will make and fire a 'mummy' saggar. This is a short course so we will not be making any work and each participant would ideally bring suitable bisqued pieces - either sculptural or vessel forms. Information on this will be provided after booking. The focus will be on decorating and firing techniques. It is hoped that each participant will take home around 8 finished pieces. Most pieces should be of 'modest' size. Bisqued pieces will be available to purchase from the organisers if you are unable to bring your own.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 8 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All decorating materials, firings in the raku kiln, tea and coffee, and a light lunch
2 days (9:30am to 5:00pm)
