More about Green Man Ceramics Workshop: The underlying message of the Green Man has changed through history, today he could be seen as an environmental guardian, a keeper of forests and woods. Exploring the many different interpretations of this mythical figure, we will start the workshop with our tutor Dee, who will take participants on a meditative walk through Hawkwood's woodland, connecting with our senses in a short meditation. Taking this moment in time at the start of a workshop often helps clear our minds of the daily clutter and link into our creative core. As we return to the Haybarn we will gather objects and textures to imprint onto the clay when sculpting. After a replenishing coffee break the following section of the day will focus on bringing this time honoured folklore figure to life. Our experienced tutor Juli will guide you through simple sculpting techniques, demonstrating how to create facial features and expression, alongside decorative techniques. The workshop is suitable for those who have little or no experience using clay as well as participants with more knowledge, all abilities are welcome. We will use stoneware clay, so your sculpture will be frost proof and can be set in your garden.
