I have taught plant/flower painting for over 3 decades to many learners. These workshops and courses are run from my studio in Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey and from Treborth Botanical Gardens in Bangor if the weather is fine.
This is a seasonal painting workshop so we will paint the flowers that are available at that time. If you wish to come at another time please contact me with your request via the 'Chat with the maker' button.
These workshops are open to total beginners and more experienced painters. My approach is that of a portrait painter, opening to what the flower has to offer us. I am not a botanical painter, my style and the way I teach is relaxed and loose.
The workshops are in watercolour but if you want to paint in gouache that is fine. Gouache is a wonderfully versatile medium which is similar to watercolour but can be painted onto very dark backgrounds.
These courses are non-residential. If you have any enquiries about accommodation please contact me.
The workshops run from Saturday 9.30 - Sunday 4.00.
On Saturday we paint in the studio and on Sunday we paint at the botanical gardens (if the weather is good and there are enough learners that wish to do so) and in the luscious greenhouses which are full to bursting with all kinds of wondrous plants!
If there are any other dates that you are interested in and they are not here please contact me.
I have taught plant drawing/painting at many levels from being a University lecturer in Art & Design and foundation courses for those who are starting out. Recently I have run local groups in Wales for adults and for the WEA. I also have experience in working with disabled people and those with special needs. Part of my training has been in art therapy. My workshops are friendly and I endeavour to make each person feel welcome. You will come away inspired and with enough information to create your own plant portraits!
My own paintings have been exhibited/sold internationally.
I look forward to meeting you and please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. Diolch.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Included in the cost is full tuition and drinks/biscuits, also entry and use of the Botanic Gardens (weather permitting).
I prefer learners to bring their own paints and paper and will send out a list before the weekend starts, I have spares that can be used at cost price.
Please message me for enquiries with a brief description of your painting experience (non/intermediate/experienced proffessional) this helps me gauge the level of any particular date and makes it easier to design the weekend. And any other questions. Thank you very much.

As a nervous beginner I was a little apprehensive about attending a painting course, particularly as to how I might compare against my fellow course members, but I needn't have worried. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly and I came away feeling much more confident about what I can achieve. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of painting in a bigger, looser style. Thank you Georgina.
Response from Georgina Rambton:Thank you so much for your review Julie. I'm glad you enjoyed the weekend.
I have just attended Georgia's 2 day workshop on flower painting and found it delightful. She is a very relaxed and inspiring teacher and encouraged us to experiment with our style of painting. I would say this course is suitable for any level and encourages a looser style. Beaumaris, where this course was held, is a charming seaside town. All in all, a lovely weekend and highly recommended!
Response from Georgina Rambton:Hi Sandra, many thanks for your review. It was great to have you and your girls in the group! Thanks again.
Had a wonderful time .After first being very unsure I would be able to do water colour painting,Georgina was very patient and gave excellent tutoring .I was able to gain confidence that by the end of the course I loved this medium completing paintings overlooking the menai straits and the mountains wonderful thank you Georgina.
Response from Georgina Rambton:Thank you Brenda. It was lovely to meet you and great to see how you developed over the weekend.
Georgina's speciality and favourite subject is flower painting with gouache and this was the subject of her most recent workshop which I attended. I have worked with her before and found her approach relaxed and informative, and have learned much from her. However, in the flower painting one, her way of teaching reflected her expertise. The simple, yet precise way I learned from her how to observe the relationship of different parts of plants and use this as a template for creating an accurate portrayal in a short space of time was an eye opener. It was indeed like unlocking a mystery.
And as a person she is warm and humorous. Her workshops are fun and I would recommend them to any aspiring artist.
We had a really brilliant day - and learnt so much.
A really inspirational tutor who gave me a totally new approach to plant painting and drawing.
It was fun too!
Wonderful! Georgina is a fantastic teacher, I learned a huge amount and now feel so much more confident in my approach to painting.
I stayed in the delightful loft room next to the studio, a really peaceful place.
Highly recommended ! 😊
