For those of you unable to attend Linda’s course in person we offer the option of joining us online.
The Apple course is a wonderful taster for those of you who itch to draw, but just aren’t sure where to start. It is equally interesting for improvers who might want to go back to basics as a reminder of the simplicity of the technique. You can be assured of an artwork to be proud of at the end of this lesson.
We invite you to share your outcomes with Linda and of course be in touch if you have any concerns or need help by email for the duration of the course.
Coloured pencil is a marvellously versatile medium and it is genuinely an easy medium to master when you have learned the basic techniques. Linda invites you to join her for a series of workshops specifically using Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. You will learn how to layer and blend and various other ‘tricks’ in this easy introductory lesson. Complete beginners and improvers will enjoy this ‘back to basics’, simple, but very impressive apple drawing technique.
If you get hooked, progression courses are also available.
A set of notes, guidance on paper and pencils to use and an instructional video for this course are all included.
All you need is a small selection of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils, good quality drawing paper and a few pencil case items (you will be supplied with a detailed list on purchasing the course).

I spent considerable time researching potential teachers of colored pencil. Linda Hampson stood out as not only a wonderfully talented artist, but also an excellent teacher. I really enjoy Linda's explanations of why she does this or that and her repetition of critical aspects of drawing. Her approach is thoughtful, carefully filmed and fun!
I would highly recommend any tutorial or workshop of Linda Hampson. It's fun to learn facts about her topics as well which are always included between drawing steps.

Oh Laurie, thank you so much for such a lovely review! In 'usual' times when we saw our customers 'in person' we knew they enjoyed our courses as they could just tell us. But with so much 'online' now we its harder for us to know we are getting things right, so when people take the time to write constrictive reviews we are just so grateful, it gives us great satisfaction in our work! This was an excellent tutorial explaining everything from start to finish in a very clear style.
Response from The Old Kennels:
Thank you so much for your kind review we are so pleased you enjoyed it!I attended a one day coloured pencil workshop with Linda Hampson at the Old Kennels in September 2021. It was a lovely day with teaching taking place in the barn and lunch outside in the gorgeous surroundings. It was obvious that great care had been taken to ensure that everything was Covid safe so the atmosphere was relaxed.
I am new to coloured pencils and I learnt so much. The accompanying video is a great idea because you can practice what you learnt at home. I will be attending future workshops in 2022.

Thank you Ro for such a lovely review! we are so pleased you have enjoyed your course atThe Old Kennels and the online tutorials too! :)I have thoroughly enjoyed Linda’s classes and learnt so much. I think I have done nearly all of them now and have no hesitation in recommending them.
Response from The Old Kennels:
Thank you Moira, what a lovely review! So glad you enjoy our courses! :)Having taken a couple of Linda's 'in person tutorials', I was delighted that, during lockdowns, I was able to access her video courses - they have kept me going through these strange times, and
it is so good to be able to revisit the videos when required. They have also encouraged me to move on
to drawing other subjects.
The notes, as ever, are excellent and I continue to enjoy my drawing immensely.
Response from The Old Kennels:
Thank you so much for your kind review Liz :)I thoroughly enjoyed this course and definitely recommend it to anyone.
I checked the link early and ordered a few pencils in and made sure I had some paper etc. around the house before I sat down to start. I spent a few hours on a rainy Sunday sketching in the company of the lovely tutor via pre-recorded video and I loved it.
The course provides written instructions, extra details and the pre-recorded video that you can stop, rewind and re-play as many times as you need. I have never done anything quite like this and I was genuinely pleased with what I produced, even though I didn't think for one minute I would be. If you're not sure, just give it a go!
