Fabulous fused glass jewellery for beginners
Description
If you love glass, colour and jewellery this fun course will give you an excellent introduction to making your own fused glass jewellery taught by Eleanor Watson from The Jewellery Boat. We will explore a wide variety of techniques for fused glass, working on a small scale to produce individually designed cabochons for jewellery. Using colour, pattern, inclusions, and texture you will be amazed at the scope of this lovely material. You will make pendants, earrings and brooches learning how to design them to be worn as jewellery along the way. All glass is provided including a selection of dichroic glass and some fittings. Each student is given a starter goody bag of jewellery findings (including the appropriate glue) to use with their glass such as silver plated bails, brooch fittings, cuff links and ear studs. These can be glued onto the back of the jewellery made once it has been fired. On average people make perhaps 15 (or more) pieces during the day. This course is for adults over the age of 16. We will also enrol students from the age of 12 if accompanied by a fee paying adult. Areas covered: jewellery design, the various types of fusing glass available, how to safely cut glass, the best tools to use, glass compatibility, using inclusions and glass media, full and tack fuse firing cycles, and a wide variety of decorative techniques. Your finished pieces can either be picked up after firing or if more convenient we will post them to your home by Royal Mail (for a small P+P fee) The day starts at 10:00am and finishes around 4.30pm with a break for lunch of 30 minutes. The studio is located in Stoke Newington surrounded by lovely cafes and coffee shops to take a break or alternatively please feel free to bring a packed lunch. We limit each workshop to a maximum of 6 people providing the advantage of a small class where you can experiment with an experienced tutor on hand at each stage. Eleanor has a wealth of experience in working with fused glass creating colourful jewellery. She also teaches jewellery making including silver, glass, enamelling and cloisonné on copper and silver, polymer clay and anodised aluminium. See The Jewellery Boat website for more details.

Maker
I'm Eleanor, I'm a jeweller and glass maker and I love colour, texture, design and pattern. I work across all of these in a variety of media including fused glass, enamel, silver, copper, anodised aluminium creating my one-off jewellery and glass pieces. I retrained as a jeweller in 2012, and I work with my husband at Rainbow Glass Studios where I thoroughly enjoy teaching weekend courses in glass and enamelling. I believe everyone has creativity and I want to encourage you to explore yours!
