About the Course
Encaustic art is an ancient art form. Initially used to repair holes in Greek warships, beeswax became an exciting medium when mixed with pigment.
Your tutor, Debra, has worked with encaustic for over twenty years and is delighted to be able to offer this course at the teaching pod, in the grounds of her Isle of Man studio.
The studio is in the grounds of Ballabeg Farm. Part of a community of artists, Grenaby Studios is a hive of industry with many of the artists selling through the Longhouse Collective, a gallery shop on site. This rural setting is beautiful, even when it rains!
By the end of the day you will have learned how to prepare your surfaces, grounds and how to create your own encaustic medium.
You will be shown how to paint, incise, layer and fuse, add inclusions and incorporate graphite into the wax.
If you wish to include your own photo, please bring a mirror image print of it from a toner type copier.
This course will teach you the more traditional methods rather than with the use of an iron and ready made paints.
Restricted to 6 participants, you can be assured of plenty of attention from your tutor.
Be prepared to learn, laugh and relax during this informative and stimulating day.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?

You will go home with a triptych of 4" square paintings on cradle board and another piece.
