About the Course
I am Catherine Demet, Dressmaking Tutor and am proud to have been running Love Dressmaking for 10 years in 2020! I have a background from working as a designer in the clothing industry and from teaching dressmaking for colleges. Making clothes beautifully is my passion and I love passing on my skills to all of my learners. My classes and workshops are small, usually with 6 people learning. I am keen to ensure that learners make clothes that fit well, look professionally made and are very wearable. I am also keen that my learners enjoy learning with me and that they learn numerous new skills so that they can make clothes that look professionally made.
I offer Dressmaking workshops in Newport and Shrewsbury, Shropshire. My workshops are usually for one day where learners will make a specific garment in a day.
You will learn how to –
-adjust your pattern for a good fit if necessary
-handle and cut fabric
-transfer pattern markings to your fabric to ensure the pieces fit together correctly.
-follow pattern instructions
-use various stitches on your sewing machine to make your garment
-use the overlocker to neaten or construct seams
-finishing techniques including pressing to ensure a professional finish.
