Description
Basic DIY is aimed at anyone with an interest in maintaining their home to a good standard. In the 7.5 hour course we will cover: 1. PAINTING: gloss, emulsion, masking tape, brushes, surface preparation. 2. WOODWORK: cleaning, striping, filling, Sanding and wood finishes. Types of hand saws explained. 3. ELECTRIC: plug wiring and fuses, bulb types, mains test screwdriver and hidden wiring through wall test meter. RCD Trip. 4. DRILL: drilling bits explained, wood metal and brick fixings 5. LADDERS: safety of using steps and ladders. 6. SAFETY: tips on being safe at all times , eyes, ears, throat, hands.

My love of woodcraft was due to a meeting with a guitarist friend who had made an acoustic guitar. We talked about his guitar for many hours and I thought it would be a challenge for me to have a go! Well that was 6 years ago and now I am in a small workshop in Stoke where I build various instruments. The Strumstick instrument build is a great way to get to grips with fine woodworking and is an ideal step towards acoustic guitar building. No experience in woodwork is needed.
