About the Course

This course is suitable for Level 3 learners and a great follow on from our beginner courses.

This course is aimed at those who would like to make a copy of a favourite piece of clothing but don’t know where to start.

On this course you will be taught the various ways to copy a garment without taking it apart and make a pattern from it.

This course runs over 2 sessions to ensure you have time to learn and understand the processes with an experienced dressmaking teacher, who will be able to pass on some great tips and able to answer your questions

On this course your will learn to:
• Understand the various components of a garment
• How to apply simple sizing adjustments
• How to apply simple alterations i.e. widening and lengthening
• Using pattern making tools and equipment
• Applying terminology used in pattern making and garment construction
• And ending with a finished pattern of your garment!

Additional Option For those wanting to make a toile/mock-up of your copied garment there will be an option for a third week to work with the teacher to sew your garment together (additional fee apply). Here the teacher will help you with methods of sewing and various techniques. But if not you can do this at home at your own leisure.

You will need to bring:
1. One garment to copy. (Please don’t over complicate things for this first learning experience, so bring something you love but manageable to copy)
2. Dress making pins


Level 3: Walkers
• I can do everything in level 1 & 2 – (Basic sewing skills)
• I understand and use backstitching at the start & end of seams
• I have made an item by following a commercial pattern instructions, but can do with further help and understanding

Total course length:
6 hours (3 hours x 2 weeks = week 1 & 2)
Additional option time will be 3 hours x 1 week = week 3

Clone a Garment - Toile

This session is for those who have completed the Clone a Garment course (only) and would like to make a toile/mock-up of their pattern.

Additional Option For those wanting to make a toile/mock-up of your copied garment there will be an option for a third week to work with the teacher to sew your garment together (addition fee apply). Here the teacher will help you with methods of sewing and various techniques. But if not you can do this at home at your own leisure.

On this course your will learn to:
• Use the pattern you have made to make a toile/sample of your cloned garment
• Use sewing equipment and techniques used in garment manufacturing
• Fit and made necessary adjustments
The aim is for you to know and understand the formula in constructions so that you can continue this process in the future

You will need to bring:
1. Your garment
2. The completed pattern of the cloned garment
3. Your sewing kit

Level 3: Walkers

What's included in the price?

On this course you will need to bring a garment you want to clone then later for the addition session you will need some fabric, but other than that just your willingness to learn.
