About the Course
This course is perfect for beginners or for anyone who is a little rusty and would like to refresh their sewing skills. It will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge you need to make stitched samples using a sewing machine and its accessories. You will learn how to use a sewing machine, it’s controls and functions including, stitch length and width, tensioning, threading and bobbin winding. You will learn how to do practical and decorative stitches, and how to use different machine feet for different techniques such as seams, hems, piping, shell edge, zip insertion, buttonholes, sewing on buttons, darning, free machine embroidery and much more.
We will also explore different types of fabric, their qualities and how to use them.
The course includes 30 hours guided teaching in the sewing room, all equipment and materials will be provided. Qualification is based on completion of all required course work - there is no exam to sit!
Participants will need to be available to attend all 5 sessions.
This course is delivered in collaboration with DebDayDesign and Inkberrow Design Centre.
The full title of this course is City&Guilds Level 1 Award in Fashion - Sewing Machine Skills - 7160 - 01 unit 104 (more information can be found on the City&Guilds website).
A deposit of £135 will be required on booking. The balance can be paid in 5 instalments of £90, please see website for more details.
