Carve your own picture-relief, with experienced woodcarving teacher in Devon

X

Description

Designing and carving a picture-relief is the ideal project for beginners and experienced carvers for a days work. By creating your own design, you can make it easy or complex depending on experience and taste I am available for advice and help in developing the design. During the carving process your design can change and develop further. I will demonstrate and explain the correct and safe use of tools throughout the day. You will use sharp traditional woodcarving tools and Devon-grown lime for carving. Lime is close-grained and soft with a very warm and welcoming feel and is the ideal wood for the project. At the end of the day you will take home your own personally designed wood carving and will have experienced the process of creating a wood carving with traditional woodcarving tools. Limited to 2 participants, the workshop takes place in my woodcarving studio in South Devon which is set-up for teaching young people and adults. The minimum age is 12 and a young person from that age up to 18 has to be accompanied by an adult. For a young person attending with accompanying adult, the two available places on the workshop have to be booked. If you want to bring two young people to the workshop please contact me. I can make that possible. I can add new workshop dates to the calendar. Please message me for possible dates. My teaching experience is based on over 22 years of teaching woodcarving and other three dimensional arts and crafts to adults and children. I love sharing my experience and enthusing others in working with wood. Please bring your own lunch.

With over 20 years of teaching experience I love sharing my skills and learn from my students. My own artistic work is inspired by the ever-changing and evolving forms in nature and the seasons. Animals and the development of plant forms, are a constant inspiration for me. Working wood with traditional hand tools and techniques is a very rewarding experience. Each piece of wood is different and carving is an inspiring conversation with a unique piece of living material.
