How to read a crochet pattern and chart.

Think about why you’d like to learn to crochet, and what you’d like to learn to make. Blankets? Fab! Choose between our learn v-stitch lesson, or our granny squares. Toys, and stuff? Great! Choose to make our cotton jellyfish, which will introduce you to lots of techniques used to make crocheted creatures. Want to know more? Read on…

Beginner’s Introduction to crochet – crochet a V-Stitch Sampler

V-stitch is a great starter for beginners as the technique uses just 2 stitches. Using v-stitch means that your project will grow really quickly, and you’ll be able to make blankets, throws, scarves etc. And the great thing is, it’ll give you oodles of confidence to carry on to try other things! You’ll be working from a pattern and/or chart, with lots of guidance, so that you can go away after your lesson, and carry on with your project at home.

You will learn how to:

Hold your hook and yarn
Use chain stitch and trebles
Join in new colours
Read a pattern and chart
Finish off your work
Work in rows

Beginner’s Introduction to Granny Squares – Crochet a Pop Wheel Square

At these beginner lessons, you’ll learn how to make pop wheel granny squares. These use a few basic stitches and techniques, and produce really lovely results. With your granny squares, you will be able to make blankets and throws, scarves, bags, cushion covers and more. As above, you’ll be working from a pattern and/or chart, with lots of guidance, so that you can go away after your lesson, and carry on with projects at home.

You will learn how to:

Hold your hook and yarn
Use chain stitch, slip stitch, trebles and double trebles
Join in new colours
Read a pattern and chart
Finish off your work
Work in rounds

Beginner’s Introduction to Amigurumi – Crochet a Cotton Jellyish

Amigurumi is a Japanese term, and means small, knitted or crocheted stuffed creatures. They’re incredibly popular, and we’ll start you off, with our cotton jellyfish, which will teach you a few of the techniques involved, although as it’s isn’t stuffed, it isn’t strictly amigurumi (but who’s counting?). This uses a lot of stitches and techniques, that really will give you a great start.

You will learn how to:
Hold your hook and yarn
Use chain stitch, slip stitch, double and treble crochet
Read a pattern and chart
Finish off your work
Work in rounds and rows
Work increases
Make a picot edge

The above lessons have been listed in order of difficulty, with v-stitch being the most simple.

Courses are for 4 hours, on a day to suit you. The course times are either 10am-2pm, or 1pm-5pm.

Maximum 2 people per course. £20 off the per person price, for you and a friend.
