About the Course
On the Bee Experience, a highly qualified beekeeper will give a short briefing and after checking that your beesuit is safely zipped up and supplying you with suitable gloves you will learn how to light the smoker and the importance of this vital piece of beekeeping equipment, you will then enter the apiary and meet the bees.
An audience usually gathers inside the bee centre to watch through the viewing windows and listen to the commentary given by the beekeeper via an audio link.
During the experience you will open several hives of different sorts and you will learn how bees adapt differently to different hives and how their behaviour changes.
If you are lucky, and have good eye sight, you may spot the queen and you will see lots of worker bees (female) and some drones (male). The workers will be doing a multitude of different jobs which will be pointed out and their roles explained in more detail. If you are very lucky, you may even see baby bees emerging for the very first time
The bees can be seen bringing nectar and pollen back to the hives and you will be able to watch them store it away and the whole honey making process will be explained to you.
After lots of questions and information overload, you will go back into the bee centre to taste delicious fresh honey straight from the hive and invited to stay as long as you wish to ask more questions

My family bought me a voucher for a bee experience for my birthday. I have always been interested in bees but had never thought about going to such an amazing visitors centre and been able to open up full hives of bees and watch baby bees hatching & see the queen laying her eggs, all going about their business as if we weren't there.
Kath was with me throughout the experience and she was an amazing font of knowledge, answering all my questions and she let me hold frames full of bees and honey. We even found a new queen and marked her so she will be easier to spot in future.
The Bee Experience lasted for over 1 hour but the time flew by. Afterwards, we tasted different honeys from different hives and the flavours were amazing.
I am going to buy some vouchers as christmas presents for friends & family ( even children) as it is such an amazing experience. I would highly recommend it to anybody.

Had a superb day!
Steped in and it was a very welcoming place. The bee keeper kath talked to me about what was going happen, I was worried about fitting into a bee keeper suit however they had every size available from 3 year old to 5xl.
Wow what a fantastic experience! Kath was very knowledgeable and I learnt loads about bees. Pictures was taken throughout so I had memories to look back on.
Kath makes you feel at ease throughout the experience and it's really safe.
The center is also great to look around and you get to taste the honey directly from the bees!
I bought some honey from the shop they have and it's the bees knees !!!
