These courses are for absolute beginners and people who've made a basket or two. Children from the age of 12 can take part also.
During this weekend, you can take it all in at your leisure, really get into it and unwind. You’ll be able to weave a rattan basket. This material is quite fine and easy to work with.
What to Expect
- A basket made out of fine rattan material;
- Working with rattan is something for everyone, as it is very easy on the hands;
- The step-by-step, easy to follow process is ideal for beginners;
- With different colours and basketry techniques you can create your own patterns;
- All rattan, use of tools (if you don't like using your own) and teas, coffees and cakes are included. I ask people to bring lunch. There will be fruit for when we get peckish.
It's a fantastic weekend to spend with friends, but also really great to share with like-minded people you've not met before.
For Body and Mind
Basket weaving is very therapeutic, as you are using head, heart and hands, bringing body and mind back in sync. Working in a group allows you to share experiences, bounce off ideas, so it's also a great way to build new friendships. Truly refreshing for both mind and spirit.
Is this for me?
Over the years, people with disabilities, or who were thought to be lesser abled were still able to weave a basket. Not quite sure about your abilities, then just get in touch and I will assess to see whether it's for you.
Locations
I try to organise the courses in rural locations; on farms for instance. This way, we have the benefits of nature around us to fully reconnect and rewild.
Please contact me for a more tailored experience.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 8 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

Response from Crafty Basketry:
Hi Marianne,I LOVED my whole day course making a fruit/veg basket. It was more challenging than I expected but the end result was so much better than I expected. My family are all very impressed with my basket and I am very proud of it. Marianne is a lovely patient teacher and the day was extremely well organised. Thank you for the scrumptious chocolate cake, lovely barn and log burner.... the perfect setting for basket making.
